When booking a Star Alliance Y award, the *A award charts just say 'Economy Class'.

If you book an "economy class" NZ Tasman flight as a *A award, what will the NZ "product" end up being? Is it Seat, Seat+Bag, The Works or Works Deluxe?

Hopefully you at least get Seat+Bag.

You get "Works" ... it's the same with through connection flight for non S2S fares such as Oz to USA.

Your actual BP would have both ECONOMY and WORKS printed on it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If your *A award is simply a standard ticket from Oz to NZ you may as well save the miles and buy standard NZ ticket. Pretty cheap these days.

Thanks serfty!

I have 50,000 SAS Eurobonus points expiring 30th June. What to do with them? For 25,000 points you can get a Star Alliance Y-class return ticket in the "Pacific" zone: Australia (incl. Tasmania), Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia (Tahiti), New Caledonia (Noumea), New Zealand, Norfolk Islands, Tonga and Western Samoa.

"The Works", on NZ, even for just MEL-AKL return is over $500.00.

I guess the question is how much the taxes/surcharges are for standard MEL-AKL return on rewards.

It would be much more worth while if you tag it to Pacific Islands. Tahiti is the furthest one but also most expensive to stay. Maybe try Cook Islands or something to make your redemption ticket worth while.

I hope serfty is right and SAS is wrong:

The SAS booking confirmation:
RESERVATION CONFIRMED - X ECONOMY
ON BOARD: NO MEAL SERVICE
AIRCRAFT OWNER: NZ AIR NEW ZEALAND
EQUIPMENT: AIRBUS INDUSTRIE A320-100/200

But in CheckMyTrip it does say:
Baggage: 1 piece(s) per traveller

do you have the NZ booking reference? (ends with H)

If you have you may be able to use it to look up the booking on airnz.com.

If it says economy your are set.

Yes have it. But airnz.com doesn't like it. I gave them a call and they said the booking is not paid for yet but it's X-class which should get The Works. :)

The tickets I booked were MEL-WGN,WGN-AKL-MEL (back via AKL to avoid the 6am WGN-MEL flights!) and price at $666.34 (incl $116.34 tax) for "The Works" on airnz.com. Using SAS points it was 25,000 + $127.84 tax. So the SAS points were worth around $538.50. Not brilliant, but OK, I thought.

Edit: And by getting NZ to add my Velocity number into the booking, I was able to select Space+ seating on all 3 flights via airnz.com. :) (still can't view my booking there but!)
