Sri Lankan Cutting ALL Europe sans LHR

Not surprising. No point competing any more with EK, QR and EY, that's a sure way of losing money.

Disappointing news. At least LHR remains an option with UL, with the nice chauffeur service in London too.

I would nominate continuing losses and a change of government, with a special emphasis on "corruption".

Oh well, MEL-CMB would have been nice for wandering and a minor incentive to consider their FF program - which requires at least 50% UL flights for status.

Apologies for the pedantry, but "sans" means "without"; I expect you meant "sauf" :)

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but am looking at booking UL SIN - CMB - FRA in September. I notice FRA was slated as one of the routes to be dropped...also poster on FT had issues with ticket not being issued on EU flight, purchased in Feb. Anyone have any recent experience?

My understanding was that the bulk of changes had been reversed. I dunno where to find the reference though.

I believe that the current plan is to continue flights to Frankfurt. From memory, they did drop at least one European destination recently (Rome, I think). When this route was cancelled, they were very reasonable in offering alternative flights. Passengers were given a choice of rebooking onto an Alitalia flight, or flying UL to LHR and connecting to Rome on BA in the originally booked class of travel. I believe refunds were also offered.

Either way, I wouldn't have any hesitation in booking that flight.

Yes Rome was discontinued.
Frankfurt I believe has an additional weekly trip announced.

Our flight from Rome to Colombo was cancelled ans we were offered to fly to Franfert by Alitalia, I questioned the QF points that would be missing, they then said I could go to London instead with BA ( have 2 hrs in LHR instead of 3 in Frankfert)then the Schedule UL flight to Colombo, UL did offer a full refund but that wasn't a option as other posters have stated, great airline to go with, enjoy.

Yes, it's only the flights CMB-FCO that have been dropped.

I had three business class return trips booked BKK-FCO for later this year. I decided to cancel one and get a full refund (takes 8-12 weeks to process). With another I decided to go via Paris with onward flights to Rome on AZ. And with the third booking I am travelling via LHR, with an overnight in London on the way out and a hotel provided in Colombo on the way back (for a 12-hour layover). I did appreciate the opportunity to have a little bit of variety with the routings.

SriLankan have been good in accommodating my requirements, but did need a little pushing to get things moving. I initially dealt with the UL Melbourne office, but as this has now closed, most of my communication with UL is now via email, where they are quite helpful and responsive.

Can't answer, but I am in exactly the same situation: want to book KUL-CMB-FRA in September. Still available on the UL website, but is it actually still available?

As far as I'm aware, yes the flight is still available.

If it allows you to book it, and time is not absolutely critical, I'd go for it. If UL withdraws the service they'll protect you with a number of other options.

So looks like UL finally "re-reverted" their decision to cancel flights to CDG and FRA...I realised yesterday when trying to book SIN-CMB-FRA in December.
