SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

So we ended up booking SQ37 mainly due to the evening departure allowing a full day in LA. I was still tossing up last night but Mrs NoName made the executive decision and wasn’t even swayed by an unexpected F-saver coming up for SQ11 when I went to book an hour ago.

So we have 4x J savers LAX-SIN on the non-stop. Will we be the forum guinea pigs? :p

Any suggestions for seat selection? I’m reading that row 11 may offer a little extra space? Although it’s unavailable to select currently. Would a phone call help grab it?

Do any of the brains trust know if this is correct:

So I just rang up to add SIN-BNE to my above itinerary after a 2 day stopover in SIN and was told that it’s not possible/against the terms because LAX-SIN has already been ticketed.

I mentioned that I had done similar previously and she went off to speak to a supervisor. When she returned I was told that last time it was done as an exception (which I wasn’t told about at the time). It has now gone to be requested as another exception on the basis that the SIN-BNE sector was not available at the time and had I known it was an issue I would have waited a few days and booked the whole itinerary in one go.

Is this correct?

EDIT: Well they called me back just then (very impressive given it only took 25 minutes!) and have done the change as a one time exception. Still find this rule a bit restrictive given you need to jump at booking savers in premium cabins. Makes it harder to book itineraries which include stopovers.

I had one of these exceptions - booked MEL-xSIN-FRA on SQ but couldn't book FRA-DBV because it vwasn't available (as we arrive in FRA next day and there was no flights MEL-DBV bookable in one go). I rang and FRA-DBV sector on OU was added to my existing ticket. However 3 weeks later booking our return I tried ATH-FRA then FRA-xSIN-MEL* and was told it couldn't be done because it was a different airline (LH then SQ). I was able to book the two sectors sepoarately with a three hour transit at FRA. Hopefully LH is punctual.

(*The KF website had me going ATH-IST-(somewhere in China as I recall on TK) -MEL, ie no flights on SQ as the only travel option which I didn't want to do.)

ATH-FRA might be considered backtracking? It's not uncommon for agents to come to the right answer, but on the wrong grounds :(

Just rec'd an email to say that I still had a WL, and this :
"We will let you know if a seat becomes available for confirmation between now and up to two weeks before the flight departure date. Should your flight still be on waitlist two weeks before the departure date, your waitlist will be cancelled and you will be notified. Please note that the cancellation will apply to all redemption waitlists excluding redemption upgrades.

Alternatively, you may wish to select other redemption flight options that are available for immediate confirmation by clicking the button below. If someone else made this booking for you, he/she will need to log in to make the change."

I was unsure because of yr post 7773, "‘Invent’ a reason why you ‘must' get WL cleared and call as often as you like - and YES WLs do still clear right up til day before ".

OK if WL expires at 2 week pre dep date check back again you can (could)* add a WL again - I have just been doing some checking and this might now not be possible - seems inordinate availability F/R right now on different routes but then again it may just be the Coronavirus playing havoc here - but WL will still auto cancel as I had 2 do so yesterday but when I check the route and date I can see F Savers available - dunno

Surprise surprise ..............

So it has taken me over a week in time - probably a dozen phone calls with some wait times >30mins - 5 emails back and forth to a KF Team Leader - but finally yesterday i got my upgrade from J to F on 802 on Mon Feb 17 completed and ticketed - then I had to ante up with the additional taxes:
SQ F.JPG
Yep a whole S$0.10 - ten cents - what a saga - still I now have direct access to a KF Team Leader - always a silver lining huh?

No doubt some here will have tried to contact KF over last week or so? Nothing short of a nightmare - they are totally swamped - service if you get through is limited to flts within upcoming 5 days - outside that you are requested to email your queries and expect a call back - same with all Asian Carriers and most others I BBC suspect - I have a mate with no status with ANA who had a 2hr 39min wait time on a call

so my dad is on SQ231 right now, about to touch down in SYD..
saying the entire J cabin is pretty much empty except him

Yep - right through Jan trying to secure J / F / R savers first half Feb to / fro most Oz ports - especially MEL & SYD - was basically impossible (CNY) - when i first started searching I secured J MEL-SIN-PEK Feb 11 - then staffing shortage in house killed that so I found F MEL-SIN Feb 16 but only PE SIN-PEK - booked that flt at 106,000pts (F Saver rate) - then after much pushing I got a J seat SIN-PEK released and WL F - lo and behold up springs Coronavirus and magically F clears - check now any dep / arr port in OZ and it's open slather for rdpts in all classes on all flts - we live in interesting times.

Yes the flight cancellations must be large.
Son and partner today are only two in First heading home today heading to Tokyo.
SIL got 2F Suite waitlist approved for just over 2 weeks time.
Opportunity is knocking.

Have a bit of a dilemma. Trying to get from YVR to MEL in F. Transits only with <6 hours in each port.
YVR-LAX-NRT-SIN-MEL on AC/NH/SQ/SQ (AC is in J, everything else F) is being priced as 255k (140k + 115k) miles, because the LAX-NRT is considered backtracking.
Even if they drop the YVR-LAX, it is still 255k with slightly less taxes!

If I go LAX-SIN-MEL on SQ (two flight numbers, SQ11 LAX-SIN has a transit in NRT but is one flight number), there is no backtracking and is 167k.
But if I want to start in YVR and do: YVR-LAX-SIN-MEL on AC/SQ/SQ, they have to charge the YVR-LAX separately making it 23k + 167k.
No way to price it as a one way point to point *A award which is 167.5k.

Is it because it's a mixed J/F booking? I thought you were still able to do it without a problem...

iwant to get confirmation of this, as first he said one leg was cancelled, then he said the second leg was cancelled, then he changed to its all been cancelled to, its just been moved

ive recieved no emails or calls about it, what am I supposed to do as ive got no idea whats going on

the only change I had was back in December where they have moved the flight fwd 30mins

Does “manage my booking“ allow you select new flights?
