SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Trying to book a MEL-CDG LHR-MEL multi-city J return on SQ, and found out that it costs more than my main c.c. limit (I'm a poor pensioner), and payment cannot be split between cards. The problem is not finding the cash - I could load that c.c. with the extra cash needed, currently held elsewhere, if I had to. But I wondered whether booking the outward and return flights separately would cost more, and whether in that case the LHR-MEL journey would be charged in £ rather than AU$. I could play around with the bookings on the website but thought I might get valuable advice here.

And am I right that there's a special deal for this if booked before 5 September, or did that apply only to bookings with AmEx. (I don't get any emails from SQ.)

So finally bit the bullet and burned the points stting around and have booked SIN-CDG-SIN-SYD in old suites to treat myself and Mrs Phoenix to our first taste of F as well as a month in Europe. Unfortunately the bulk of the flights are 00:15 or 00:45 departures so I understand there will be less service. Thankfully CDG-SIN is a 12:00 departure.

Just after some tips on must do, and best advice to get the most out of the trips we have. For instance should we have the joining suites in row 1 or 2, or is there very little difference.

Looking forward to any tips, even to maximise the lesser service flights.

CDG-SIN was our first suite ride. The CDG lounge is disappointing, but it all improved from there.

You can see more of our flight from here Paris Suites!

I had this posted on another thread, but haven't had any responses, and since the thread was about the SQ Gold lounge, I thought maybe on this thread people have a bit more insight into the J and F/R Lounges.

Now that the refurb of the Gold lounge is underway, does anyone have an update of the overall project timeline? When TPR/F lounge will close for refurb, when it will relaunch, will there be a temporary TPR/F lounge? Do you detect the panic in my message? ;)

Flying R SYD-SIN and J SIN-LAX in March, so wondering what the options will be and what will be open/closed 6-8 months into the project start.

There are temporary lounge arrangements which appear to be the current KrisFlyer Gold lounge. It looks like this will be used for both business class, then first class passengers while their respective lounges are being refurbished. (Current KF Gold moves to a temporary lounge.)

One assumes the level of service offered at the KF Gold lounge will vary depending on whether they are catering for F or J.

Interesting reading between the lines whether TPR is going to stay or go. Some reports suggest it will just a a private dining area of the new F lounge: Singapore Airlines to renovate its Silverkris and Krisflyer Gold Lounges at Changi Airport T3 – Business Traveller

I can't seem to find any actual schedule of closures.

Thanks MEL. I've heard a couple of different speculations on how this will work. I've heard business will move to the temporary location or the new Gold location, and F will move to business while F/R gets re-done. There will always be someone not happy with the arrangement, I just hope its not me. :)

Executive traveller advises this as the order, but only mention the start and final complete dates. "First will be the Business Class lounge, followed by the First Class lounge and then The Private Room, with the KrisFlyer Gold lounge going under the knife in early 2021." But Kris Flyer Gold lounge is closed as of last month. It's all a bit confusing, but I'm more of a gantt chart guy when it comes to figuring out timelines.

As for how the new lounge offerings will compare, they report the private room will maintain its private dining room. So, Im guessing it will still be its own lounge or exclusive area hidden from the riffraff of the First lounge.

The Kris Flyer gold lounge is indeed closed... to eligible economy class pax. They will move to a temporary facility. Business and first will then take over the now vacated kris flyer gold lounge (with. one assumes, improved offerings according to cabin class).

If they are going to expand the current business class lounge it makes sense this might take up some of the current TPR space. The current F/TPR arrangements aren't probably the best use of space. A combined F lounge with separate dining area for SQ F/R probably makes sense.

SIN T3 SKL Refurb

OK I think I have a bit of a handle on things - I have not seen plans and most Lounge Mgmt (LM) have indeed seen multiple diff plans - it continues to change weekly.

But this is what I have ascertained so far:
  1. Gold Lounge has been relocated to Marhaba Lounge other side of dual level LV store
  2. Sats Lounge which abuts old Gold Lounge will stay - new GL will abut Sats Lounge on other side closer to LV store
  3. The current works to right of top of escalator to SKL entry is to be office space
  4. TPR will be relocated to left hand side of entry to SKL - yes closest to entry. Existing TPR will continue in current format until new stand alone full service TPR is ready to open
  5. First Class Lounge will abut TPR to LHS of entry taking up area currently occupied by the J Lounge
  6. J Lounge will move across to RHS of current SKL footprint and continue right up to abut current Sats Lounge - it will encompass the area previously where Gold Lounge was located
  7. Completion date is slated for 01/08/2021 or sooner - or later
  8. Please don’t shoot me if any or all above prove incorrect - I think it is pretty well on the money but even LM are in the dark as plans keep changing so regularly

Can't you just put their names on yr redeption nominees list? Then upgrade them. It won't cost anything to try.

looks like its not

"your booking cannot be upgraded. Online redemption upgrades can only be made if paseenger names in the booking match the names on Krisflyer redemption nominees"
