I've got a KrisFlyer redemption MEL-SIN-LHR later in the year. MEL-SIN was First Suites on A380, followed by F on B773ER to LHR.

They've now switched the A380 to an A350, which only has J.

What would others expect/suggest in this situation?

If I remain in J, should I ask and/or expect some points compensation?

Should I switch to an alternate B773 F service out of MEL or request a Suites seat out of SYD?

Has anyone done SQ A350 J yet and be able to comment whether it's worth giving the new aircraft a try?

Compared to SQ F of any sort, definitely not. I'd ask for them to reaccommodate you out of Sydney on an A380.

I don't think I'd fly A350 J again unless I were in the front row.

They have happened to allocate to the front row of J. Thanks for your comments. I'm finding it difficult to decide what to do.

Row 11 or 19 would be acceptable to me as a business class seat, so if you'd like to avoid Sydney (which would be fair enough), you could perhaps ask for some points by way of compensation.

I think in your case I'd probably just ask for an alternative F flight out of MEL, and perhaps some points or cash if that means you'll have longer at SIN.

Unless you've never done suites before and are particularly keen to.

An update for my situation: I rang and was able to ask for a re-routing. In my instance, SYD-SIN-LHR is going to be more convenient. R was available on SQ232 departing at 11:00, so they grabbed that, but waitlisted me for SQ222 at 15:00 (both A380 flights). They put in a request for SQ322 for a seat to be released. Yesterday I received confirmation on the release of SQ222. The SQ agent called me today to confirm this and release the seat on SQ232. 10 minutes later they called back to confirm that a seat was now available on SQ322. So now I am on A380 First Suites all the way through to LHR. A much better outcome for me overall.

They had to cancel my MEL-LHR booking, but without any points or $ penalty, so there'll be some difference in currency exchange. They also honoured the original mileage/points for the switch to the new routing.

While not directly relevant, I flew an A380 SQ J followed by an A350 J just a week ago. I strangely found the A380 seat to 'feel' a bit better, despite being obviously older. Sure the A350 is very fresh and the AVOD is sharper, but that foot well is definitely tighter I think. Anyway they were both very nice but I didn't pull down the bed on either, just reclined.

Also, given the fare availability on these flights, I'm a bit shocked that the seat release did actually get approved for SQ322...

Yeah that's real good hey, didn't think of going SYD-SIN instead.. Fingers crossed they don't pull the Sydney A380 out for a refit !!!!

I have 2 x F Savers booked MEL-SIN on 218 for May 5 - last Saturday Feb 18 whilst I was in SH I rcvd call from KF advising me of equip change. Agents first Q was do I still want to retain existing booking with cabin downgrade or have him look for alt F flts / dates? As I am locked into the date and time response was I will keep existing booking but what compensation will KF offer me to downgrade?

Rcvd call back last night and offer is 17K / pax compensation - 34K total. OK by me - J on 350 MEL-SIN then 380 SIN-PVG at J rates - still get 4hrs in TPR pre dep of 830 to PVG. I asked about F lounge access in MEL pre dep and response was no not possible - the offer is 17K pts / pax and that's it. Didn't have the heart to push this further as it will not be a prob for our group of 4 to get F access pre 218.

This exp is about what I expect from SQ with an equip change - I am still staggered that a few here had probs with similar situation into CPH wasn't it last year? That was so out of character for SQ.

How about the cost to position MEL-SYD, did they cover that?
