SQ Points Upgrade Question

I am flying from LAX to SAI via ICH in January. I understand SQ only allows a 1 class upgrade, does that mean I need to buy a PY seat to get into J or can I still go directly from Y to J.

If Premium Economy is available on that route the you can only upgrade Y to PE or PE to J.

SQ allows one upgrade class only
