SQ will be raising their fuel fines by around US$5 per sector for tickets issued in Australia from 30 March 2008.

That's very interesting, considering that the price of oil has fallen over 10% in the last week or so.

Just another excuse to hike prices, but it could backfire on these greedy and rapacious airlines.

How so? Currently most airlines in the top tier are drastically short of aircraft and running at good loads - thus although there is competition it isnt real competition. I think the pigs will be in the trough for another few years yet - especially if manufacturers continue to stall delivery of new aircraft...

I think it was more of a wish than a prediction!!

I don't think it will either, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it happened.

Aaaaah SQ just is trying to keep up with the Jones's .......

Current AUD surcharges on SQ using a couple of examples are (MEL-SIN-MEL, MEL-LHR-MEL) $265.31 and $557.61 - so extra $5USD per sector makes them around $277 and $580 respectively.

Compare that to one of their main competitor's in the Australian market (QF), who already charge $326.31 and $615.61 and are talking about more increases. (now if only they were both like EK, who don't have fuel fines ....)

I guess you have never heard of the US and UK economies. PM me if you wish and I can provide some salient statistics (and even predictions).

I hope you are being prudent with your investments right now. The good times will never end, right? Just ask the investment bankers and their staffs in London. Aren't you in that business? So you ought to know.

OK so another meaningless pointless post there AH. Happy to debate when you make some relevant and informative comment rather than some random jibe that is both condescending and factually incorrect.

Just in terms of facts - I do not work in the investment banking industry. I am aware of the sub-prime issues. I am a little aware of the US and UK economies given I am English and work for a US company.

I assume that your barb might be making some link between the softness of the US/UK economies in light of the collapse of some banking institutions in the US and thus some reticence in that industry to pay for premium airfares? Would that be correct? It is hard to extrapolate a coherent argument from such a brief off handed snide comment.
