I recently stayed at Sheraton Mirage resort in Port Douglas. They are undergoing a much needed renovation of the entire resort.

While chatting with one of the desk staff, they said it is due to finish in July. When I asked how will that pan out, given the merger might be done by that time.

He told me that most of the staff is looking forward for this merger, as it seems Marriott is better than SPG to their employees. He even was supporting Marriott's loyalty program.

I just thought, Ill share this view. I dont mean to judge any person, but it was interesting to hear the view of an employee.

At present I am not too worried about the merger. Will be able to stay in a lot more places with this change.
Only concern is how they will treat those just short of lifetime status with SPG.I finish this year with 8 years of plat and 400 nights. Was looking forward to the end of 2017 and making LTP.
Earlier this year we spent 3 nights at the Marriott Amsterdam when the Pullitzer left SPG.We got treated very well and impressed by the staff.

Yikes! I really took my eye off the ball on that one - missed it completely. What does it all mean for SPG members? Need to go off now and investigate.

Unfortunately we don't know what it means for SPG members really yet, but no one is assuming it's going to be good news as far as I can see.

For property employees would think treatment would more depend on individual hotel owner, than licensed brands, apart from the staff transfer benefits

Staff don't usually know a lot about loyalty programs do they though? It's like asking a Flight attendant about a frequent flyer program. I wouldn't expect them to know too much
