According to a website monitoring tool that I accessed today, this website naturally has its largest number of viewers emanating from Australia, with the AFF website ranked number 2734 in Oz, and 42.5 per cent of viewers coming from the island continent.

However, India, with an 11.1 per cent share of viewers, is next, followed by United States of America (7.3 per cent), United Kingdom (5.5 per cent), Philippines (5.2 per cent) and Germany (3.5 per cent of AFF viewers).

It was surprising to see India and Philippines in the top five. Maybe that is due to both nations' large number of call centres that may mean Australian managers are going up there and want to check on how to use FF points to come back.

Notable omissions are New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia including Bali, Malaysia, Fiji and France, which are all either major business or holiday destinations for Australians.

The popularity of the AFF site has recently waned in comparison to other worldwide Internet sites but this statistic bounces around a fair bit from month to month.

serfty, my tool was from Alexa - The Web Information Company

That's a marked difference: your measuring stick claims that more than 76 per cent of AFF viewers are from Oz; mine says less than half. I don't understand why there's such a disparity. Do they measure the IP addresses differently?

I'd imagine the best records of web traffic would be from admin, but that may be commercially sensitive information.

... followed by United States of America (7.3 per cent)

That'll be any members currently on YUPP's checking in ;)

... United Kingdom (5.5 per cent)

Mal and Flashback ;)

... Philippines (5.2 per cent)

And jetlagger when he's on holiday ;)

It's an interesting topic - I wonder if admin would be able to share any insight into where "traffic" comes from?

Understand if too sensitive but as a travel forum even a broad brush answer would be interesting.

Alexa gets its data from the Alexa Toolbar. Whoever has the toolbar installed, alexa captures all the sites visited and uses that data to provide its statistics.

Similar Web works in a similar way. Their browser plug-ins capture every page you visit and that data is used to provide its analysis.

I don't have either of their toolbars or plugins installed, so I am not one of their statistic. All the statistics might say is that there are more people in India with the Alexa toolbar than the SimilarWeb plugin.

As docjames says, the only person with the real stats would be admin.

Exactly - I wouldn't be looking at stats from any source other than either the site's traffic logs or the site's Google Analytics (or similar) page.
All these third party systems use toolbars - and I don't know anyone who uses those toolbars so the stats are all skewed.

And of course lots of members are travelling, some people use the site as a travel resource and others might even be using VPNs which may even show up as a different address to where they actually are located!

Lots of users using apps too, and even mobile browsers I don't think usually have plug-ins or toolbars ;) so takes out a huge chunk of visitors.

I'm not really sure why someone would bother looking up stats on a site, unless they owned it. Serious question to the OP, why did you look up the site stats from this site? I really have better things to do than worry about someone else's website statistics

admin, many thanks.

MarkD, I looked it up because I did not know from what nations the viewers of this site came; I started the topic discussion in the hope that some would find it interesting. Some have - you may not have, which is fine. No need to read the discussion if you have better things to do.
