Soft landing after QF platinum?

I'm currently WP with Qantas and have been for a few years now. Looks unlikely that I'll earn much this year with them, possibly not even enough for a Gold status... And possibly not even get my 4 qualifying flights. (Most of my travel is with ow partners, so I'll prob switch after the recent changes or try to get a status match elsewhere). My question is, will QF give me a soft landing to gold, if I don't have enough gold points, or if I don't have enough gold credits or qualifying flights?

Soft landings with no activity have been seem, so should not be an issue.

I soft landed with no qualifying flights.

The positive thing is if you have over qualified for platinum in each of the previous years, and if the average SCs (over the last few years) would still get you over the line this year, they might comp you platinum.

but otherwise gold it is.

No other OW airline is known to give a status match. AA has the Plat challenge for quicker status , but now does not have soft status landing. Alaska has many OW airlines as partners

Yep soft landing to SG happens. I only earnt a few hundred SC when I was WP and dropped to SG, then at SG I had 0 SC and 0 ~ qualifying flights and dropped to my now PS. My now PS still remains at 0 SC and 0 ~ qualifying flights. I say bye bye Qantas but a big shout out to AA, US, LM and SQ

I've been SC for the past three years (yes I know - not a big deal in the overall picture prior to that Bronze) and have been QFF for 20 years and although I don't fly that often I have always made a point of using QF and Jetstar. My membership year is up on 30/4/14 and I don't have enough SC to keep my silver status, however on the 30th May I have a return booking to Prague (using Qf from CNS to BNE then EK - ticketed as QF ) this would take me up to the required SC level to maintain silver. I rang the QFF centre to see if just perhaps they could or would be willing to carry me for just 30 days - in short the response was no - it's a computer thing and we can't change it.
Feeling just a bit disappointed but not surprised, and over the years never complaining , never receiving any hint of an upgrade (other than via using points, and then only on domestic services and never international) I thought well , if thats how you are going to treat someone who has shown all those years of loyalty -then its ta ta QF . With several overseas trips happening in the next 12 months , it looks like any one of their competitors will get my business.

While I understand, you have to look at it from their perspective next year when you ask for the same leniency because you have again failed to hold onto PS (Silver). Maybe that's not your intention, but if they gave free months and status comps to every member who asked, the program would be a real mess, and that's saying something.

That said, hope is not lost as recent reports have been that ~3 years of the same status will generally give a 4th year complimentary, as an average SC over the 3 can be gleaned.

If you've been a member for ~20 years, and probably earned varying amounts, perhaps your lifetime tally is getting close to Silver for life?

Yep, they will give you Gold, my current situation with only three flights on QF for the entire year (now with AA). Why don't you try for a status match on the WP with another airline while you can, you never know, it could extend your elite level with another airline for another year (although perhaps a different alliance)

Thanks everyone for the info. Good to know I'll at least keep gold for another year. I still have a few months to maximise use of the F lounge!

Any suggestions 're which airline is most likely to status match? The other alliances are all fine for getting me where I need to (europe) , but I think virgin may be a no-go after I status matched a couple of years ago then didn't use them!

And still offer an unofficial status challenge for EXP for UA 1K's.
