Whilst it is possible to check in at the Club, accessing the club via the elevators without having checked in is another issue.

When you enter, let the folks at the door know and they'll send you up. It's never an issue.

Yes the agents at the lobby check in counters are very quick to offer to scan you up to the club for check in if you so wish.
You could also ask a staff member on the floor without queuing at the regular check in counters, they've never questioned my eligibility.

Good luck with any recognition, went in Feb this year in a junior suite as a Gold. No upgrade, no welcome gift/amenity. But had no problems checking in downstairs.

Good to know. When I stayed the lobby was busy and chaotic so it wasn’t easy to find an appropriate person to scan me up.
