Snacks for every passenger on VA

Thanks bullerdude. I shall ask for a second drink if I don't fall asleep.

0600am Sydney-Melbourne Today Rennards White Choc & Raspberry Muffin Tea/Coffee/Juice
0810am Melbourne-Adelaide just Tea/Coffee/Juice offered

On a 6:30pm BNE-SYD flight this evening. Is it strictly 1 beer or is it possible to ask for more?

have asked for a 2nd round in the past no problems, although have noticed on full flights, since the free snacks have been on offer, as well as happy hour, the crew struggle to finish the service before landing, let alone offering to get a 2nd round for those up the front. As mentioned earlier in the post, maybe they need retraining or another crew member to smooth out the delivery of the service

My latest experience showed me why they may struggle to finish service. 54min MEL-SYD, 3 crew in Y cabin, full flight, not as many suits as leisure, I think we were connecting people to INT flt's in SYD. The couple next to me in 3EF had the snack and asked for a water, and a juice and a coffee, which to the crews credit they kept smiling and provided, so that is six drinks to 2 people. Then the row behind me each had two drinks, water and a hot drink.
I find at QF most people (myself included) only have one drink, because the snap dragons serving often remind you that it is one or the other not both as happened two weeks prior QF MEL-BNE.

This would seem to really slow the service down. And VA pour the waters, not handing out a small bottle like they did on capital connect, so the whole process is very time consuming. And add to that they are still asking if people would like to purchase anything and people still seem to!
The only way I can see to speed it up is one more crew member, which appears to happen on some flt's, and get rid of the purchase items, and get the little waters in containers.

If they used bottle drinks ala QF they'd probably get through things a bit quicker, rather than having to pour water and juice as well as coffees.

I don't see the need for food on every flight between SYD and MEL, it's not like you can't go for 90 minutes without eating. But at least VA is being honest and calling these 'snacks'.

QF still insists it serves 'a meal on every flight' but for many if not most domestic flights this is a snack, not a meal.

As far as I can tell, no-one's mentioned the cheesy-bacony muffin thing I got on Monday morning MEL-SYD, so there's at least some 'breakfasty' option. Pretty ordinary though.

Got Carman's chips + salsa on Friday night SYD-MEL: for the record, those corn chips are OK, but dear sweet lord the "Spicy Tomato Salsa" is amazing. So good! I strongly considered licking out the little tub but the guy in 4E was already glaring at me because I kept giggling while reading the Allie Brosh book and didn't want any more death stares.

I spent 15 minutes doing a tour of my local Woolworth's today trying to find a jar of it, but no luck. Honestly I'm not sure they don't put crack in it. SO GOOD.

I just wish there were more Chips to eat more Sasla the proper way - Rather than using fingers ;) - Had it myself today on a Flexi SYD-OOL!

It's good too see VA are giving out a much wider variety of food nowadays, rather than just stick with one or two they had with the Flexi meals of Sandwiches!

Had a snack from SYD to BNE... it was a pack of Kez's chocolates cookies and also a can of ice tea... yumm

It made me happy when VA give out free snack on the plane and wish to have hot meals like Qantas lol

Well at least Virgin are tying to emulate Qantas.

Carmen's corn chips with some sort of salsa.

The person in row 3 asked the supervisor for another wine. The person in 4E asked for water. I was in 4C and was not able to get her attention. The crew came around to collect waste as we were about to descend and brought the wine and water with them. That was it.

I asked if I could have another beer. The rest of the conversation was not pleasant and I was not happy they were playing favourites especially telling me the wine for 3D was a special order from cabin supervisor.

I don't know if Virgin crew are really busy or incompetent but Qantas manages to provide a snack/meal service then come back and collect everything and happily provide further drink service.

Not impressed.

Saturday,
4.05pm Adelaide- Melbourne, Tea/Coffee/Juice
8.00pm Melbourne-Sydney, Mainland Cheese & Bickies, Tea/Coffee/Juice, no Beer/wine

Both flights full, a 737 with wireless streaming, then a 190, no wireless.

Both crews got the job done.

Qantas AM Snack (same route)

Had the Carmen corn chips + tomato salsa combo that many posters had on last Friday's SYD-MEL service. I have also noticed that the crew are slow to get through the cabin and struggled to finish cabin service.

Interesting, the crew did not proactively offered the snack to all passengers as I have to specifically ask for it (although they offered drinks to everyone). Also noticed that one crew member keep slipping bottleds of mini spirits to a pax sitting in front of me which seems strange (friends or family perhaps?)

All in all, a slightly disappointing experience.

Don't like this new snack service.

First flights on flexis BNE-Syd both ways. Corn chips up and mousse back. 4pm flight outbound so was offered a pick of the bar. 3pm flight back and no coke, sorry $4. I'm sorry, but that's a joke.

On the return flight I was starving having no time to eat beforehand, was at least looking forward to some sort of meal (oh, yeah, that doesn't exist anymore) , or ok something else substantial.... But heck, all I got was some sweet chocolate mixed with air for my troubles! Not happy Jan!

Part of the convenience of a flex was indeed the meal.

Now I can't even get a proper a drink!

Don't like this new snack service.

First flights on flexis BNE-Syd both .....

Is this confirmed? Do flexis no longer get a wrap etc on these routes? Thats outrageous!

From the wording on the VA website one could argue that flexi guest can get multiple snacks:

Flexi guests receive complimentary snacks and drinks. (http://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/on-board-the-flight/on-board-menu/domestic/)

Anyone tried getting multiple snacks?

Now all we really need is for VA to replace the junk in the Lounge with the salsa/corn chip combo ... except it would probably be bad business as it would actually be eaten unlike the current boring, sad choices. Maybe the suggestion re Lounge-made sandwiches could be supported by cardboard boxes to take aboard?

And agree on comments re multiple drinks orders ... one Sun night flight about 4-5 weeks ago the crew fixed this by deciding not to make tea/coffee ... apparently that particular 737-800 "didn't have coffee making facilities" unlike every other one I've flown on twice a week for last 10 months ... and there were no silver jugs on the trolley.
