Skyteam Status Discussion

Their Melbourne and Sydney city offices have closed, so I'm guessing you'd have to call for bookings on airlines which weren't supported online like DL and VS (SK, AF and KL seem to be online though so that's something, but frustratingly they don't display what's actually available until you have the miles).

Unfortunately, VN matches QF Gold to VN Gold, which is only Elite (not Elite Plus), while Kenya Airlines still doesn't recognise earn and burn on MU. :(

Get HSBC card -> Star Gold -> VN Platinum (top tier)

VN will let any star carriers 1up on a match

It seems VN is selling status hoping that the lounge charge by other airlines wouldnt exceed the fee they get from it.

However it really dilute the STEP benefit if they are selling it for USD299. It is like the free platinum with marriott and diamond with hilton from US based credit card.

If I didnt already hold STEP with Delta and the redemption rate is better on VN, I would have jumped on the wagon as well.

SkyTeam has a backdoor which allows you to become SkyTeam Elite Plus with direct spend of A$100K.
Just buy a lifetime membership from China Eastern for Chinese Yuan 490K will buy you lifetime Gold, provided your balance is above Chinese Yuan 300K, so effectively you can still have 190K to spend, which is about 10x return tickets between Australia/Europe and Shanghai on Business.

Do you have a link to somewhere on MU's website which provides more details on this?

They're not selling status. It's a match.
You need top-tier with another airline to be eligible to apply.

AFKLM, KQ, VS, DL and other Skyteam airlines all offer StatusMatch.
