SkyBus gone up again [Now $23.90 one way]

I would like to use the 901 + Broadmeadows service more. But I live in Docklands, it's really hard to treat it as a realistic alternative given how close Skybus gets me.

Southern Cross Station isn't close enough to Docklands? If not then why not get the tram from SCS to Docklands assuming it's during the hours they run?

Time, and in most cases I'm going straight from work to the airport (i.e. time becomes a factor) or arriving back after 9pm at night (not keen on spending 2 hours getting home or spending much time in Broadmeadows, though I'm sure I'd be safe)

One day, we might get the direct train link to MEL.

And that journey, whilst I am sure will provide much more consistency in travel times (something that Skybus does not) will probably not be able to do the journey in 20-25 minutes. More likely 30-35 mins to Southern Cross, unless it follows a dedicated track all the way into town. If it does look at the fare being a lot more than $20 ... remembering that politicians and those that line their pockets are involved (note to self: stop being so cynical, it might work out OK one day, 25 minute journey all for a Zone 1 fare )

901 bus as required, expecially whwn travelling on weekends. As our myki cards allow free weekend travel.

Better something than nothing and (for me at least) better than catching a taxi, Uber or the 901 Bus to Broadmeadows and the train into Southern Cross (really must try that at some stage).

Skybus is good option for me on days car hire gets too expensive. No point wasting money on taxi or Uber if need to go only to city but on the other hand can’t be bothered with bus + train, I value my time more than the $$ amount saved by doing that (usually in MEL for business these days).

Started the survey, but the moment I selected that I was overseas resident I was booted out and therefore cannot offer any insight into what the questions being asked were. (I guess as a result maybe they mainly focussing on parking for local residents).

Your vote doesn't exist so why would they be interested in an opinion.

Where is the Productivity Commission? The big picture is to make public transport more efficient, not less. If there is a backhand deal, force it to be made public and well known.
Certainly for people to use their cars, or if a family of 4, hire one - because it is cheaper than defacto shuttle transport. Let more mini-buses and Chinese tour buses thrive! or Uber etc.
The second statement to make is international benchmarking. Its a black mark against Melbourne. It is a disgrace that tourists pull out scroogle maps to finder better alternatives. I do believe the losers are low income people. BTW my GPS now shows rat alley paths to avoid tolls,and Victoria's speed/revenue cameras.

Adelaide and Perth also have 'standard' public transport fare' buses as far as I can tell, as does the Gold Coast.

Perth is certainly 'standard' fare for the bus - and as we have discussed before an airport train is scheduled to start service in 2021, also at 'standard' fare. It has been delayed 12 months due to sinkholes found around the airport. It used to be a very boggy area.

And in Perth with a "Seniors Card" bus pass, mid day and weekends the trip to the airport(s) don't cost you anything.

In a country which believes that the private sector can do things better than the public sector, this result is not overwhelmingly surprising, is it.
Technically, you can weasel your way in and out of the airports at low cost in Sydney and Brisbane but it takes extra time and doing. In Sydney, you can take a bus towards a nearby train station, and in Brisbane a shuttle to Skygate shopping heaven and a public bus from there. Adding to the fun in Sydney is that if you find a bus that's actually on time, you might as well put the lottery ticket in, too, for that week...

Skybus offer express service and charge accordingly.
You can use bus and train from airport to city which is much cheaper if you have the time to spare.
