Hi

Travelling from Syd to Kuala Lumpur with Qantas with transit stopover in Singapore, then from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur I can either fly via Malaysian airlines or Srilankan Airlines (offered by Qantas as 'another carrier' airline)

The pricing is roughly the same. I'd prefer to be travelling with the carrier for the SIN to KL leg that offers reliability eg not known for cancelling flights etc

Any thoughts on either of these carriers for the 1 HR flight into KL

Thanks

I would go with MH, they are a lot closer to home and I would have thought they offer good frequency even if things go wrong.

The issue with Sri Lankan is going to be that they are relatively infrequent flyers on that particular sector (not sure how often but I don't think they operate it every day, and only once on the days they do) so it may be better going with MH who operate a number of flights a day.

Can't find any stats on their on time reliability on that sector.

I didn't think about the number of flights per day and it makes sense especially if a flight is unfortunately cancelled.
thanks for bringing the obvious to my attention. Malaysian airlines it is then.

Air Asia have very cheap fares, and good frequency, SIN-KUL. Maybe check out those as well?

Though in May when flying KUL-SIN with luggage MH was cheaper than Air asia.

MH solely down to the fact of frequency and location.

I would be trying to avoid the 734 even on such a short journey if possible.

I think MH flights between SIN and KUL are pretty much all 734's these days.

I thought that they did run the odd 738/772 hop between the two.

(I might be thinking about the MH codeshare on SQ metal)

Perhaps the odd 738 does pop up, now that they have started receiving them.
It is pretty much solely 734 ops, but QF (atleast from PER) offer the choice of MH, UL, SQ- so if you did not like the 734, then SQ or UL would be the way to go.

they use them on the flights to BKK, surprised the OP was not given the SQ or 3K options that show on the website for various connections.

I just had a look at a random date in May and the connections to SQ and 3K were more expensive.

Not sure what you mean by avoiding the '734', but presuming you mean the type of aircraft , could you explain why you say I should avoid. Also when I looked up the carriers on this sector there is no mention of an aircraft being a '734' if that what you were referring to.

Flying on 10 Sept 2010 Syd to Kuala Lumpur. Syd - HK leg is on Qantas A380, then HK to KL I'm given the following carriers to chose from.

The flight via Malaysian airlines (MH602) is on a Boeing 737-400

If you could enlighten me on the '734' issue that would be great.
thanks

On Jetstar Asia (3K683) it's the: Airbus Industrie A320-100/200

On Srilankan Airlines (UL316) its a Airbus Industrie A330-200

Where did "HK" come from, I think you mean SIN.

MH.

Through connection / d.o.c. so transit easy in SIN.

Avoid the LCC's for this reason, especially AirAsia from a different terminal.

Boeing 737-400.

If there was the choice between aircraft (which there isn't if you chose MH), I would chose any of the other MH aircraft over the 734.

However for a 50 minute hop, there isn't much advantage either way.

(P.S Some people prefer wide body jets over narrow body jets)

The flight is about 200 miles and takes about 35 mins. The aircraft type makes little difference!
