So I posted a little while ago about best route from perth to Tokyo. Ended up on Qantas to Singapore then a Japan airline flight with a Qantas number to Tokyo. Work pays so even though its economy it works. I just wanted to post about how impressed I am with the Singapore lounge. Its not crowded, the food is way above what I have previously sampled in Australia and in the US. And its a very pleasant place to hang out for 5 hours.
Maybe I am not a good judge. Because though I am gold on both Qantas and Virgin and was Gold back in the day on United when I lived in the USA but this is nicest I have been to. Maybe its cause all my flying is in economy. So a whole lot of flights mostly short haul but nothing fancy or expensive. Heck the first time I was in Business was just in May 2015 after a flight screw up coming back from the US. The gate attendant in Birmingham Alabama was so happy I wasnt screaming at her like the previously rescheduled passengers that she upgraded me to Business for the Dallas-Sydney fight.
Guess Im babbling a little.....but the point is I was very pleasantly surprised at the lounge here in Singapore, even though people on here had said it was nice.

Wasn't that impressed with it when it first opened was not a fan of the industrial look and still not, nor a fan of the, IMHO, Overly Asian dominated food offerings however, the lounge its self has grown on me especially the staff who of late seem to go out of there way to help. The more balanced Western Vs Asian food offerings has been a great step forward.

I am indeed looking forward to being in the Singapore lounge on Wednesday this week.

It is a decent lounge but not top notch in my view. From a handful of visits, I've found the food and staff to be pretty average. The feel and space isn't great (industrial is a good description), it gets noisy even when only half-full, and front desk staff have been quite indifferent on a couple of occasions. Bar is good (though understaffed), lots of powerpoints and some nice spaces to sit.

I prefer the Emirates lounge when open. Food and service a couple of notches better than the Qantas lounge. But it too can get very crowded at peak time.

But always good to hear of positive experiences and I am looking forward to an upcoming visit - travelling on oneworld partners so EK won't be an option.
