Is there much difference really or just a novelty? I'm on the A380 later this year HKG-SIN-MEL.

So far I've reserved seats on the upper deck. I've only flown on the lower deck. Is one deck quieter than the others? Best seats? I'm currently sitting in Row 75.

I believe the meal service should be quicker due to smaller cabin upstairs. The window seats upstairs have side storage lockers.

I think the theory goes less passengers in cabin = less noise.

But from purely practical perspective if you are in the middle 4 of the 2-4-2 configuration it makes no difference but if on the sides 2-4-2 is better than 3-4-3! It does seem more intimate, never travelled downstairs on SQ A380, but I have upstairs and have travelled on QF A380 (all economy is downstairs). Tended to prefer upstairs, but there are specific seats that would negate that preference.

I am flying SQ Y MEL to SIN next week and am wondering if it is worth the extra S$50 for the 'preferred' seats? At this stage I am upstairs in 73A, window, 2 rows back from the front of Y. My return is the same. I am 6' so would I miss the extra leg room the $ buys? Both flights are daytime flights, so I don't expect to be sleeping.

Dont bother with the preferred seats, the upstairs cabin is great as is - plenty of extra side room at the windows and very quiet. I'm 6' and found the leg room fine for SYD-SIN.

I've done SQ 380s' a few times SIN/HKG/SIN on both upper & lower decks. I have a preference for the upper, though didn't know about the $50 supp for the preferred seats.. Think as I recall upper deck was in Y around the 70's seating vicinity & reasonably comfortable.

Do you get the choice of upper or lower? I am code sharing the MEL-SIN leg on the same plane. Because I am code sharing with VA do I get a seat selection option? Would I best be, or can I only do this throug the singapore webiste.

I am still trying to figure out if being a VA plat gets me any in air preference, ie seat selection.. Will my status be ackowledged in any way by singapore?

Any othe rvelocity plat members done a code share on Singapore and can share their experience, or direct me to a thread?

Thanks for the advice, guys.

I will scope out the seats on the outward leg and if it looks a lot better then I can always upgrade on the return leg. Yohy?! I take your point about the leg room and will see how I go.

wallacej I am TK Elite and had the pick of lower and upper deck Y. I did book through a TA but don't think that would have made a difference. Maybe SQ gives full access to *A-G, or maybe to everyone, I don't know.

I flew SIN-MEL October last year and paid extra for the emergency row I think it was. Row 73 rings a bell. It was worth it for me, as I had been riding a motorbike for the past 12 days and my legs needed to stretch out! Although I do remember it being quite cold there... FWIW I got 5.5hrs sleep on that leg.

Um, which one was correct - *A-G or everyone?

Not sure about that..
But at least for *A-G with SQ , they are usually most obliging via the call centre, if you get the right person - the seat requests usually work favourably for me.:D

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

So rather than start a new thread I will piggy onto this one.... Should I contact Singapore to get my seat, or is online seat selection available via the virgin website, or via the singapore website?

Suggest you give SQ a call, explaining your status & if possible see what they can offer..
Cheers :)

Thanks..will do that, thougt others may have had experience. Checked the singapore website, cant do anything without their booking number.

The top flyers have personal contacts. Apart from that they are quite average.

So am I! Which dates?

FWIW, *G is generally employed to represent "Star Alliance Gold" status.

(*A-G reads as "silver" to this ex physicist. :p)
