Hi:)...im booking a qatar flight shortly and wondering if i should be using my VFF so to earn points & SC with Virgin or just stick to trying to get status with qatar.

Currently VA Plat, i dont think ill be needing these SC's to retain platinum so thinking it may be best to keep as avios at qatar and getting status there. i see the points can be merged similar to virgins family pooling, but not so for the status credits. qpoints earned on this flight i think will be 148, which is 2sc short of that required for silver.

The other option i guess could be to use QFF number and that way i think ill earn 270sc.

Flight is Qatar 1st cairo to sydney.

Happy for any thoughts/advice on what you would do.

cheers

jc

I'm not convinced that Silver status is worth aiming for in and of itself. If you'll be doing enough flying to get up to Gold (Oneworld Sapphire), that might be worth aiming for especially if you'll be doing some flying on Oneworld airlines.

Otherwise, the prospect of 100% bonus Velocity points as Velocity Platinum is pretty enticing to me. The other consideration is that having retained Platinum, an extra 500 Velocity SCs will enable you to gift Gold to someone -- worth considering?
