As most of you know Drron has been working in Tassie over the last two summers, and I fly down to see him every month. He is Q P - I am Q Plat. When he flies MEL-DEV return he always gets row 2 sitting by himself. I always get row 4 with someone sitting next to me. Last night, there were two female Plats, both with men sitting beside us, and all the male plats were sitting by themselves. This happens every time I fly to DEV and I am getting sick of Q sexist attitude to female Plats !! Why cant I get an empty seat next to me ??

Has any other female Plat notice this happening to them too ??

I'm not a WP, so can't comment on that, but I do get frustrated with the FA's attitudes towards me when I am sitting in J, either paid or points. Yes, I am young-ish and female, but just because I don't look like a businessman doesn't mean you need to be rude or unhelpful. Or worse, tell me that I am lost and need to sit down the back without checking my J boarding pass *sigh*

To be fair, its not limited to FAs - I get "you are too young to be a doctor" and "Thank you nurse, when will I see the doctor?" (usually after 30min consult!) on a regular basis.
:D One day I will be grateful for looking young, right?

Must be a DEV thing. Between SYD and ADL I get annoyed that i seem to always have a silver or gold sitting in the middle next to me and all around no other middle seats are taken. I've not checked the sex angle on this, but there is one lady (plat, I see her regularly) on my last 2 flights who has had a an empty middle seat. Certainly not a valid measurement but still.

Otherwise yes you will miss being young. Remember the truism that youth is wasted on the young and enjoy while you can. ;)

I got asked by the CSM on a recent trip "So how can you afford to fly up the front?"

Lucky I didn't take it the wrong way...

and mrs.dr.ron, threaten Qantas with calling nonews!

Best thing I have been asked when on an SC run "Just here to check out the catering, were you? " :p

Perhaps they think drron is too old and ugly to have anyone sit next to him! :p  Or he gets an empty seat next to him because he is a doctor!

Seriously I am a male and I would love to have an empty middle seat next to me but that does not happen on most of my flights. In fact there could be someone sitting next to me in a middle seat and not one person in middle seats for the next 6-7 rows.

Also, as A SG I tended to have a chat to the lounge dragon (The nicer ones at least) and asked politely if the seat next to me. The responses have been everything from "It is now" to "You're the only person on the plane with an empty seat next to you. :) "

Best one was in Tokyo when I had an empty seat next to me on my flight back to syd, in an exit row.... Without paying the fee....

Am I the only one whose mind was in the gutter??

On reading the title of this thread I thought to myself "now who would want to....let only how would one have sex on a DASH8?"

Maybe we should start a new thread

QF is not the only one in the sex game;)

Wife and me are in our 20's and have been flying int up the front since we moved down under. We regularly get the you are a bit young looks which sometimes is annoying. If we have the tickets all is fine for me and don't want them to look weird at me. She especially gets them when she flies on her own. Next solo flights for her will be a J classic award to BRU for a wedding. I'll ask her to keep an eye out for weird looks :D

and in response to the subject line........yes please!

OK can we keep on the subject please ! Dash 8 are 2 rows of two seats. Last night at least the front half the plane were men in seat with a empty seat next to them. Row 2 (youngish woman) and row 4 (Me) had a man next to them. It has happened at least 10 times - I am getting a complex ! Supposedly if your a Plat and it is possible you get a vacant seat next to you ?? So on Tuesday when I fly home, I will be asking at check in about this and see what the response is.

Maybe I should have titled this post "Qantas unfair treatment of female PLATs" !!!!!

All things considered, I would have thought the OP was talking about Sembach Airport in Finsterwalde, Germany, whose airport code is SEX but I can find no commercial services that travel there.

Some people have dirty minds ;)

As for the original question, while it would be theoretically possible for Altea to factor pax gender into seating assignments, I wouldn't see why they would create a business rule to have it do this.

The other thing I thought is a consideration with Dash-8 services is the weight requirements/balance needs/load control.

I could only guess that the pax who are getting the vacant seats are higher up the WP pecking order, and the seat assignments respective of aircraft loading are being selected to reflect this - meaning that a female pax is being seated with another, regardless of gender.

That's the only logical explanation I can see for this occurring, nothing sinister.

I know a CL partner (female) who complains the in long haul j and f, the male pax get fawned over whilst she gets mostly ignored. I'm sure she'd sympathize mrs.dr.ron

Dash 8 have careful loading rules. I can never pre-select my seat on these aircraft, I presume everyone else is in the same boat?

How did you know all the males were Plat?? Do you do what I do and try to read peoples boarding passes as well???

I don't think QF is singling out female Platinums by giving the male Platinums an empty seat next to them.

I think you are going through a run of bad luck which I seem to go through for long periods at a time.
