Hi Guys
My fiance and i travelling to LAX on QF 93 on November 29. We have 2 PNR;s as shes returning at a later date. I am Platinum, she is gold. I havent put a request on as i would hate for one of us to be upgraded and not the other.

I see there is still 9 inF, so would you guys put the request on and run the risk?

Also can i find out if many people have requested F already?

Also, if i was upgraded but say night before she wasnt, could i cancel my upgrade and forfeit the points?

i really want to make the flight special as its actually our anniversary date (have spoke to qantas but undestantably they get this question all the time so couldnt be much help, but just thought about the possible chances now and maybe cancelling mine if she doesnt get hers)

Thanks for your help guys :)

You can't cancel an upgrade if it's awarded.
If you really want to be sure of being in the same cabin then don't request it.
However you could give your upgrade if granted to your fiancé and take the J seat yourself ?
I don't think the staff onboard would have a problem with that.

Me personally ? I'd run the risk of only getting one upgrade and request one for each of you.

Short of having a source at QF you can't see how many requests are in.

EF shows F9 A9 on the flight with 5 seats allocated so far (this does NOT mean only 5 are sold though). J looks about 2/3 full at this point, and one has to assume there will be other status pax in that cabin with requests in, plus last minute bookings over the next 2 weeks.

It really is a lottery. As Fiona said I'd put in the requests and if one comes through then swap out or just sit together in J and enjoy.

While you can done together in F if you both have it, you may get split over the cabin vs sitting together in J and your partner may prefer the sweet time right next door to you. It is mostly the same food anyway. :)

I'd still prob put it in but yeah you can't back out once an upgrade is granted.

Right now it looks like a reasonable chance but you just don't know at this point in time. In a week P1/CL may get processed and you can get a better idea

Enjoy and congratulations on your engagement :)

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I will leave it for now, we have 2 seats up in the first 3 rows of J, so its a nice cabin up there.

Do you know if the check in agents or lounge can process upgrades if say on the day theres still empty seats?

Not points upgrades, no. ODUs are possible (but obviously unlikely).

I would not chance it on the day of departure in the lounge to ask - all the requests would be processed and your chances of 2 J->F would be.... small.

Thanks all, so i got some mixed messages saying ugprades cant be cancelled? BUt someone at qantas said if it was outside 24 hours i could cancel my F upgrade for 5,000 points, or within 24 hours and forefeit all points. (this will sound like blasphamey to most of you i know haha) but end of the day we want to sit together, and are willing to risk losing 45k points if we both dont get bumped up.

Can anyone confirm this is doable as im getting a lot of mixed signals

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The call Centre is correct, however if the prime objective is to sit together then you will lose your J seat allocation as soon as the upgrade is awarded. It may not be possible to get it back. Y- J upgrades will occur at the same time. You'll be dependent on the good will of others to switch seats.
Also the likelihood of getting the Upgrade more than 24 hours out is much less particularly so for your partner. If you get the upgrade outside 24 hours you would really have to hold your nerve and forfeit the points as the partners upgrade might get awarded later.

So yes it's doable but it sounds like sitting together is more important to you than points, unless I've misinterpreted your posts.

So i have been upgraded, with t minus 50 hours to go, and F at 4 left , my partner on Gold is stil requested, god lets hope , she does get my platinum status for the gold upgrade processing ?

... , she does get my platinum status for the gold upgrade processing ?
No ... these days only P1's have their aura washed across lower status PAX when using their P1 points to request an upgrade for them.

Your partner will be assessed under their own status.

Thats no good! I thought if i upgraded someone they still were considered with their status but were put up the top due to it being requested by my Platinum status.. Damn it , :( , God its time to pray i think, 4 left, 50 hours to go.

There is no conflict in the t&c's:
16.1.9 Subject to clause 16.1, if the Member cancels a confirmed Classic Upgrade Reward within 24 hours of scheduled departure, or fails to board a flight for which a Classic Upgrade Reward has been confirmed (no-show), the Member will forfeit the Classic Upgrade Reward and any Points used to redeem the Classic Upgrade Reward, and a seat may no longer be available in the class of travel originally purchased or redeemed. If the Member cancels a confirmed Classic Upgrade Reward more than 24 hours before scheduled departure, the Classic Upgrade Reward may be refunded and will incur a Refund of Unused Classic Upgrade Reward Fee (see the Fee Schedule).

16.1.10 A Member may cancel a request for a Classic Upgrade Reward at any time prior to the time at which Qantas confirms the Classic Upgrade Reward without forfeiture of Points. ...
The fee is currently 5000 points.

We got both ! So excited !!!!

We are booked in to spa at 9.30am, and then i hope there is room in restaurant for some brekky after that :)

Thanks for your help along the way guys

Here's hoping your fingers don't suffer any lasting damage from being crossed so tightly ;)

Congratulations - I hope you enjoy it all.

Being in First you may want to maximise the experience, especially with it being your anniversary.

Note that QF93 is scheduled to depart 11:15 so ordinarily will commence boarding around 10:30am.

I'd be looking at getting to the airport around 8am and have breakfast (with Bubbles if that's your thing) as soon as you get to the lounge ...

I agree with Serfty - the lounge is less busy at that time as most of the folks in there are going to be on CX or QF to AKL (and maybe EK if they're delayed). the 93 pax won't generally show till say 9-9:30.

A few weeks ago when I was in the restaurant was empty-ish between say 0730-0830 when I was in that part so it was very pleasant.

Then do the spa thing and once you're done you can sit elsewhere in the lounge, have another coffee or drinks or even a nibble if you like.

I hope you both have a great time enjoying the F product!
