So sometimes I get hungry. Or the lounge has no or very poor choices of food.

On a couple of QF domestic flights MEL-BNE I've been able to get a second meal (asked after meal service was finished). I mean this stuff is just wasted anyway if the crew don't eat it AFAIK. This was as a PS.

On QF International, have only asked once when hungry and they didn't have anything apart from the biscuits - said the left over Y meals were no good/disposed, fair enough time had passed since the service.

But on EK I asked just after meal service had finished and they said they don't have left overs  - surely some people decline the service and they heat it up for everyone.

Anyone else do this on an occasional basis?

On another note, I try to avoid the breakfasts as any of the in-flight egg/omlette breakfast things just make me sick and it sucks having 5 breakfasts in a row over to the UK. Maybe this is a good reason to fly the new QF9 timings for better lounge/plane food.

Are you serious, you want a second meal on a flight from MEL to BNE which is two hours max flying time...

I have asked for another meal on occasion and have usually been given one. Assuming they have something suitable that is. Sometimes on short flights, sometimes on long.

I always eat before a flight. ;)
Airport food is much better than Y class food. I had asked for water on several occasions and they had plenty in stock.

If there's a couple of tasty sounding options on the menu that MrGlider and I like the look of, we sometimes ask for the two that we really want, and as that is served we say that if there's any leftover of the 2nd interesting option after service can we have one extra to share.

Asked maybe half a dozen times, 80% success rate. These are all 4+ hour flights and generally without visiting a lounge beforehand so some warm bread and Lurpak dipped into whatever chicken or beef saucy stuff is quite appealing.

Oh but if there's one of those little Haagendaas icecream cups on the tray, I ALWAYS ask for an extra if they have leftovers. Take that awful fruit salad away and put another icecream on there lady!

There have been times where I have asked for second meal on domestic services and it was not a problem.

There was one time Qantas really stuffed it up on a SYD-LAX flight and dad and I were starving when we got to LAX. No snack on Q was loaded and the economy lunch meal was nowhere near enough. The crew tried hard but you can't survive on chocolate and lollies. And then to top it off they served breakfast from the back and had run out of the hot breakfast after the second or third row.

It would be nice if they had some sort of snack available throughout the flight if you do get hungry.
