hi all. haven't flown Air NZ in a while but we are doing the non stop to Chicago with baby. Looking for recommendations / opinions on seating please. Bulkhead row vs normal row/seat. Thoughts on skycouch (but unlikely we can afford it) too would be greatly appreciated, but Im well aware 3 of us in one row probably means no lying down though.

Thanks!

If you end up going ahead with the booking, which ever seat/s, do not book with FB (if you are Aust based), ie, FlyBuys Travel, as this travel agency does not allow picked seats/seatings (esp online booking), and then after booking with them, Air New Zealand website won't allow picking seats as bookings made with a travel agency, best to book direct with Air New Zealand, either phone or online.
If you go to a physical travel agency, they might be able to pick seats for you there and then.
If its the 787, then bulkhead is good, as there is a bit of space, between you and the wall in front.
Have used their 787 and 777 premY, there is a bit of extra space, but of course, no space to put items during flight, that you would be able to on seats further back on the plane.
If you can afford premY, go for that, $$$$$ I know, but its then only 2 abreast, other wise its pretty tight down the back of Y.
I would pick premY over Y.
BusinessPremier would (grin) be wow, ideal, but of course, its out of consideration, as their fares are skyhigh.
I have not ever phoned up Air New Zealand and asked if they allow you to buy 3 seats for 2 people, not in the skycouch zone, but just 3 seats for 2 adults and a baby, might pay to phone up and ask.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Wouldn't recommend Skycouch for any booking involving 2 adults. ( I recently flew LAX-AKL and the Skycouch was very comfortable... for just ME. I can't imagine 2 people lying down as in the advertising photos!!!!) 3 standard seats would likely be cheaper anyway..and still allow the baby to lie down...

Just phoned up the 1800 Aust based phone number of AirNZ, to make seat selection.
They are very busy, the recording said, and what else, I am an Airpoints member, with my number said to the AI ladies voice, and the wait time, she said, ie, recording, "your expected wait time can be up to 2 hours"...
In the end, I cancelled after waiting 6.5 mins!
Best of luck anyway, which ever booking way you go with.
Looks like we just can't win, in regards to airlines, covid and less staff have made it harder to book, and also fares more expensive.
