just a general question in most airlines are all economy class seats the same size? thinking of booking either singapore or qantas

thanks

i mean

if i book qantas are all there economy seats the same size?

if memory serves me correct:

QF = 31" seat pitch
SQ = 32" seat pitch

MH = 34" seat pitch and probably has the roomiest economy seat

If you can fly the A380 then the seating will be superior to say a 747.

If by size you mean seat width then they are definitely not all the same. I am wide around the hip and thighs and find the Qantas seats comfortable but found the Singapore seats a little narrower. A few years ago the Swiss A340 definitely had narrower seats in WHY and I also found the Emirates 777 regional business product a little narrow. Also it is very difficult to notice any difference between 31" and 32" pitch.

I am going back a few years and not including the A380. I think it is time to give SQ another go to see if their WHY product has improved....

thanks for info, if i book a seat on a qantas flight say on a 747 are all those economy seats the same size>

Look up seatguru, or lovemyseat. They give the size, configuration, best seats etc., If you can't find either of their sites look on Skytrax. Economy class seats vary in pitch from 32 to 34, you will rarely find more than a pitch of 34 in Economy. Premium Economy not worth the money- a European Premium Economy ticket is often over a $1,000 more than Economy and you still can't get your legs up. If your going to go Economy you might as well just scrunch yourself up and bear with it for 24 hours. A stop over for a day or two would cost less than the extra. Try flying Emirates on the A380 - whereas Business and First are full, they are often flying with a lot of empty seats in Economy.

As far as I am aware all Qantas WHY seats on the 747s are the same except for bulkhead and exit row seats which are slightly narrower due to the tray table stored in the fixed armrests.

Even though bulkhead or exit row seats are a little narrower I still prefer to sit there to avoid recliners....

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm sure that's true from your perspective John. I'm reasonably tall with slim hips and rarely notice any difference in the width of whY seats. The only time I have a problem is if I'm sitting next to a bloke with equally broad shoulders.

For some people though, the difference between 31" and 32" pitch is the difference between your knees being pushed half an inch into the seat in front or having a half inch gap between your knees and the seat in front. I certainly find the 29" pitch Jet* seats unbearable.

i've travelled many a tiger / airasia flight over the years and would never want to have their seat pitch for more than a few hrs.

fortunately most of hte lfights haven't been full, and i just hang back from the melee than ensues when the plane can be seen taxiing to the boarding gate.

usually i can find a seat where no 1 is sitting in front of me and reduce the risk of them reclining - not that the recline is really of any use.

i will say i thought the qantas seat had more room, even tho my friend (who's a good foot shoorter than me) swore blind that the SQ seats had more room.

i do think it sometimes boils down to personal preference.

i'd rather have a bit wider seat at 31" than a narrower seat at 32-34, but then that probably stems from the fact i've had a few flights were my neighbour has tended to "flow" into my personal space :shock:. 8-12 hrs of that is not a pleasant flight.
