I haven't flown on JQ since a misspent youth, but I booked some super cheap flights MEL-SIN-SGN rtn some time ago.

Currently on the overnight return leg I've selected 2 exit row seats for my better half and I, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off selecting the middle seat on two rows in the 'upfront' seats. Is that likely to end in disaster with the seats next to me getting allocated, or do they keep the integrity of their seat system intact? Obviously if the plane is full they will get allocated, but if it's not then there is a good chance to get a row of three each.

How long until your flight? Because I have no seat selection ability at all (either online or via telephone) for JQ27 SYD-HKT in late December in J.

Heading out on 7/10, rtn 23/10. Seat selection available on all 4 legs.

I'd keep the exits myself. It's been a fair while since I've flown Jetstar as well. I couldn't believe they charge 0.90c for a SMS reminder about your flight!

Not flown with JQ in Bus. (really PE) for a long time, booked 2 BNE/HNL one way J took seats up front bulkhead so no seat in front in face, anyone advise if these are better seats?

Yes we have 1A & 1C, thanks for link, we will have plenty of room. Last fight in JQ J (PE) few years back SYD/HNL person in front reclined all way back for 80% of trip it was awful.

Only took this JQ award flight as could not find QF flights to mainland USA, going onward to SEA anyway so out of HNL direct, we are departing DFW in J some 4 weeks later.

Last time this happened to me, I think was actually the same route, but the reason I couldn't allocate the seat was because the cabin was sold out....and I was allocated a crew rest seat upon checkin. Best seat in the house as it had extra space/recline. That was on an A330 mind you.

The next JQi flight I took I managed to allocate the crew rest seat in the booking, but once onboard they moved me :( to 1A :)

SO and I recently flew MEL/BKK in Star Class and BKK/MEL in whY. Outbound we had 2AC and inbound 33G&J hoping for a shadow in 33H which didn't eventuate as the flight was chockas - well I think there were 8 spare seats however 33H was not one of them.

If travelling whY I would definitely pay for exit row seating as you have plenty of leg room plus nobody infront that will recline into you. I don't know how much more space (if any) you get with upfront seating or whether you are simply paying more to be closer to the front. We had upfront seating HNL/BNE previously on the JQ A330 however I can't recall there being any additional leg room than a 'normal' seat further back.

I would choose your seats based on the assumption that there will be no spare seats and where you think you would be most comfortable. Usually I'm a window person but on a 3x3x3 config travelling as a couple on an overnight flight in the future on a B787 I would opt for two seats in the centre row of three ie DE or EF so nobody is climbing over you, nor you over them.

You aren't able to stretch your legs out under the seat in front of you like you can on some economy flights on other airlines eg EK A380 and I found it quite uncomfortable however it would be more bearable in an aisle being able to get up and stretch your legs. My feet swelled up because I was hemmed in by the window so won't be doing that again.

In May I chose 1A&1C on JQ fromSIN to MEL then had a flight time change. I neglected to re choose the seats and when checking last week found I had the choice of 3 seats spread across rows 1-3 and with none as a pair. Not happy! The message is to frequently check your seat choices. Why can't JQ simply reapply the prior seat choices?

Was the previous seating done when the flight was an A330 and hence different numbering of seats?

No, 787 each time.

Is 3GJ showing on the seat map at all as allocated or blocked?

I noticed when we flew MEL/BKK on JQ29 that those seats are curtained off as crew rest outbound but used for pax BKK/MEL on JQ30.

Those seats are blocked for our JQ HNL flight next May and June return. 1a and 1b will hopefully stick.

I'm flying BNE-HNL tomorrow on the JQ 787 flight... in Economy

Any seat recommendations?

I've given up trying to choose seats on J* 'J' class. Direct quote from the Chat Line person: "on my end, the seats are all grayed out, that means the airport staff will assign seats for you. That's usually the case in Business".

AND

"there is some risk that you and your wife will not be seated together, yes".

I'm not one of those people who absolutely insists that I need to be seated with my travelling companion at all times, but I think some others on a 9 hour journey may disagree.

Quick report back after flying SYD-HKT on the 787, seats 1G & 1J. Really impressed with these seats, more legroom than (now old) VA PE on the 777 and QF PE on the 747 (Sky2 version at least). A very quiet plane. The Jetstar onboard service was efficient and food ok. The AVOD was lacking however - movie choice extremely limited. Bags were slow out at HKT, no priority.

Check-in for this service was simply appalling. There were four queues at SYD, left to right: Service Desk, Business, Web/Online Check-In (I think) and Economy. I just happened to be first in the J queue. There was this couple in the Service Desk queue who were carrying on like nothing else about having joined the wrong queue for some reason - the woman was almost in hysterics about it. I presumed she was seated in J (she wasn't - she was flying Y) and simply might have asked me if she could push in, but stood there carrying on like a twit about it to another pax genuinely in the Service Desk queue. The Service Desk staff ignored the whole thing, as did I. Then, when check in actually opened, the one operator assigned was bum-rushed by the Web check-in queue. Rather than sending them back and calling me forward, he just proceeded to process this family of six with all of their hand luggage being weighed and carry-on about what Y seats they were in or something. Their tags indicated they were QF SGs, probably know how to game this queue successfully. Finally, the hysterical Service Desk queue couple were called forward ahead of me as well. I timed it - I was checked-in a full 20 minutes after check-in opened.

Ok big deal, who cares a small delay in the scheme of things and nothing like what many in the economy queue suffered. But hey, didn't I pay for J* 'J'?

The 3GJ block out is for crew resting. For my December fight SIN MEL the time slot was changed and the seat allocations thrown away. Mrs. ausfox and I were left with opposite sides of the aircraft and different rows. The nice person at Mel departure service desk was able to give us the 3GJ for our return sector as the flight is short and the crew don't need to use them. Seems the HNL trip is long enough to require crew resting.
