Sea Sickness and Cruise Medication

Surely being up top is better than downstairs. For me SS gets worse if I can't see the horizon

The times I was sick going to my cabin was the answer. On deck, watching the horizon = public vomiting wherever. Downstairs, in room = private vomiting with the loo handy.

I was sort of vindicated that the first time, a couple of crew went the heave too. This was a small cat IIRC going from Geraldton to the Abrolhos Islands, cutting across a nasty swell.

The closest you are to centre of ship (fulcrum point) the less movement, less chance of becoming ill. Need to consider the three dimensions to arrive at the “ideal” point as the ship moves up and down as it breeches waves at the bow and it can also get hit by waves from the side causing a wobble.

We always pay a few $s more to get a midship cabin.

Fresh cool air also helps so, we get a balcony cabin where possible.

My worst experience (but also greatest adventure) was on a replica wooden sailing ship in a force 11 gale in the bight. Downstairs the combination of the movement, the smell of the heads and fuel in the tanks was overwhelming and had to get in the fresh air. I was temporarily lashed with ropes to the side of the deck for a few hours so i wouldn’t get washed overboard as I “fed the fish” in the driving rain and seawater splashes.

Well, that’s the theory but really only addresses pitch. Ships roll is always there for all to enjoy and what most feel the most.

As someone who doesn’t suffer, my main concern is not rolling out of bed when things get really funky!

Mrscove and our two sons went green on a whale watching vessel in Hawaii so I have to be careful where we go.
I went fishing and the rule is you don’t come back to terra firma until the day is done. I was sea sick for about half an hour after pulling in two big fish on one line. You feel you are going to die.
Now my friend was going to have a tinkle off the back of a fishing boat and looked down to see a pretty big croc looking up at him. This was about 90 Kms north of Broome. He jumped and his phone dropped into the ocean.
