Sea Sickness and Cruise Medication

Ondansetron is another name for zofran. It was prescribed by our vet as a preventative (anti nausea).
Interesting! I wasn’t expecting it to be prescribed but the GP just added it on after the preventative medication ‘just in case’ vomiting had somehow started.

Been on 2 cruises now

I treat it like a bus swerving round a corner fast. Let your body flow with the sideways and up and down rocking movement while it goes on

One of the guys said he walked 1km in a minute. Forward motion lol

Everyone seems to have forgotten ginger. Both Silversea and Crystal have bowls of it out as you exit the restaurant.
I always take it but because I just like it not for sea sickness.
100%, ginger is the way to go, as a huge suffer from seasickness, having ginger 4 times a day has been awesome, for the biggest of seas.
We were put onto it from a much more authoritative source, than scientists - Myth Busters :) What their video as they trial the options.
Our go to is "Buderim Ginger Travellers Friends Ginger Chews" you can get these in bulk from the ginger factory and as they are individually wrapped, you can take the exact number you need for your cruise.
Happy sailing

Meclazine is my savior - I pick up a pack whenever I'm transiting the USA.

Hyoscine (kwells) works but the dry mouth is horrible. Everything else puts me in a dead sleep for at least 4 hours - no good on holidays!

He has prescribed prochlorperazine, which seems to be an anti-nausea medication rather than sea-sickness prevention (maybe the same thing?). Those who may know - would you take it as a preventative, or only when nauseous feeling starts? I note its a sedative.

Also prescribed ondansetron - wafers to be dissolved under the tongue if vomiting occurs.

Watch this space for this medicine's efficacy . Three days into the cruise around the Canary Islands and the captain has twice warned of big seas on the 8th  . I've looked at the forecast on Windy.:oops::eek:. Special briefing this arvo. I can see a change of schedule coming up.

OK. Forecast is for big seas - can handle that (the ship, that is). But large swell in the port of San Sebastian de la Gomera - that makes it difficult. A vessel got into trouble last year.

Its the penultimate port before returning to Las Palmas, which, as anyone who has cruised will know, you CANNOT be late for the arrival port.

So, we are skipping la Gomera and sailing to Las Palmas a day early. I'm OK with that! Lots to see in Las Palmas that I missed at the beginning.

So spending that last night in port on the ship? I really like overnighters on ships. Better safe than sorry too.
