Hi,

I need a further 350 SC points with Qantas (by Nov 11), but want to limit the $ per SC, of course. Will fly out of Melbourne. Any suggestions welcome.

Welcome!

You have the options of using points, or using cash. In regards to the first option:

While I do not know of any JASA SC runs from MEL, have you done a search of the forum and looked yourself? There might be something already posted, and if not, you might have to consider a cheap positioning flight to another starting point.

On the other hand, if you want to use cash, there’s always the old faithful Fiji SC run starting in BNE (again you’d need to get there yourself, and back), that gives 360SC’s.

Hi,

As you are based in Melbourne then the ever popular NAN status run should work for you.

http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-flyer-program/nan-run-gone-no-not-29934.html

MEL-BNE with a JASA for 60SCs, cost about 24,000 points + tax.
Next ticket is BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN-SYD-BNE stop about $1,500
then MEL-BNE for 15SCs to end the journey. You could go via Melbourne on the way back but you are pushing it for time to catch the last flight out of Brisbane back to Melbourne.

You could do the booking over a few days or weekends.

MEL-BNE ticket 1.
BNE-MEL start of ticket 2.
MEL-SYD-NAN resume ticket 2.
Holiday in Fiji.
NAN-SYD-BNE return of ticket 2.
BNE-MEL ticket 1 or ticket 3.

The great thing about J for status is the 4 times the benefit for only double the price on those Fiji runs.

Almost like the US the F runs on American Airlines domestic, the KUPP select First fares from the drop down box and you notice that the fares for upgradeable F are only 2 to 3 times the price for Y depending on city pairs but 6 times the status.

Another option is the JASAs http://www.australianfrequentflyer....uent-flyer-program/how-do-i-book-j-29610.html

In regards to Bundy Bear’s idea, depending on the dates (you seem to be quite flexible) and time, you might be able to whittle it down to ~$1300, and while flying back through all cities on the same day is tricky, you can stopover once on the inbound and outbound, leaving a MEL-BNE flight for your next membership year and giving a boost for that year.

So as above:

MEL-BNE ticket 1.
BNE-MEL start of ticket 2.
MEL-SYD-NAN resume ticket 2.
Holiday in Fiji.
NAN-SYD-MEL return of ticket 2.
New membership year.
MEL-BNE end of ticket 2.
BNE-MEL ticket 1 or 3.
