SCs Aer Lingus->Etihad->Velocity

Hey all,

I'm looking at an Aer Lingus business fare JFK-LHR and I was wondering since both AL and Virgin are partnered with Etihad if there was any way to get Velocity SCs from the flight...?

if the Aer Lingus flight is an EY code maybe? otherwise no as Aer Lingus is not a Velocity partner.

EI don't fly LHR-JFK? Do you mean DUB-JFK, if not then it will be a BA code share, EI or BA. DUB-LHR and then BA LHR-JFK.

Either way I can't see you getting VA points or status credits from a EI flight.

It's a connecting flight, strangely it's more expensive to go direct to Dublin :S

Actually if there's no SCs to be had then I might just go with the Icelandair Saga class and see what that's like. I know it's more like PE than Biz but It's almost $1k cheaper so probably worth he risk to find out....

A similar question: I am flying Rome-Milan-Abu Dhabi later this year; alitalia (AZ) ticket on EY metal from MXP to AUH.

How about if I were to get an EY boarding pass issued, would I be able to retro-claim to Velocity?

That would only work if the flight was booked with a VA or EY code, I'm afraid - in this particular case, it doesn't matter who the operating carrier is. If you booked it with an AZ code, you're probably SOL. :-/

I don’t think that will work. AFAIK, even if you get an EY BP issued, it will still list the AZ flight number if that’s what you’re ticketed as. In any case, with velocity they say you have to e-mail a copy of your BP and electronic ticket to retro claim.

By the way, to your comment that crediting to EY is not appealing – obviously it will depend on what your travel patterns are like, but I’ve found Gold status with EY to be very useful. Domestically, it gets me everything that I’d get from Gold status with Velocity, but internationally it’s much more useful, and increasingly so as they seem to add more partners all the time. Plus Etihad really seem to look after me as a Gold FF (2 op-ups out of my last 10 sectors with them – one from Y to J, one from J to F), and redemption and upgrade availability is generally very good. I've pretty much stopped crediting anything to Velocity now.
