For non-techies: Web scraping (web harvesting or web data extraction) is a computer software technique of extracting information from websites.

I have no technical skills, but I work with people who are able to write scripts that run over a few hours to pull a whole lot of information from websites automatically.

Has anyone ever tried this? Or heard of it being done to check for seat availability, pricing etc?

There are already a number of websites/tools that do this with award availability. Award Nexus and the KVS Tool are two that immediately come to mind. It's a useful service.
