… a call I’d not made, mine was obviously the random number a scammer had used when calling her
Same thing happened to me. I was on a phone call and I got a text that someone from number that I didn't recognise had tried to reach me, but did not leave a voice message. As I'm talking a lot of recruiters these days, I thought it could be a recruiter trying to reach me. I called that number and was answered by someone with an Aussie accent and I told him that I got a text that someone from this number is trying to reach me. He said that "No, I got a text from your mobile number that you were trying to reach me" ... definitely a spam call was made to his number from my phone number ...

Perhaps, my mobile number was leaked thru the Optus breach? I got an email from Optus to this effect ...

Just received a call from "No Caller ID". Answered it - looks like *unintelligible* company name from Sydney telling me that my mobile number has been approved to receive a free prepaid mobile phone, no contract, just free. I said not interested and hung up the call.

Reason why I take calls from No Caller ID : As part of my job, some of the calls I receive will be made from a caller ID masked phone..

Yeah, I have that problem. Although most of the PITA calls have bogus numbers.

And all federal government agencies, many hospitals, all call from "No caller id"
Plus if your Outgoing message doesn't state your name, policies where I work is we can't leave a message, as we don't know we have the correct phone number.

A WattsApp scam is going around ATM.
Somebody pretends to be your son or daughter and asks you to transfer money for them. It's easy to confirm if it is genuine, just ask a personal question.

It would be a sad state of affairs if you weren't aware of your children's financial difficulties (if there were any)...

Ok. Will you send me some money please! That’s pretty personal. :)

That one happened to me a few years ago about my sister in England. They did the spiel about how she was robbed and was in London penniless. They quickly hung up when i said Inspector smith here from Exeter police and that lady has just walked in here.

Whatever as long as people don't get scammed. Occasionally people just need a little reminder to be aware. Idiots maybe, but I've seen quite a few people scammed over the years.
just happened to a guy I know in Adelaide and lost $3K - unbelievably stupid

LOL. I was just about to post about this scam when I saw your post.

It would be believable if there weren't so many errors. By the way we both have same registration number

- Dear Sir/Mrs
