Hi all, I'm pretty new to all this so excuse me if my questions seem silly!

My wife and I have both recently qualified PS with QF ( Thanks to AFF for the tip on LAN J to AKL). We would both like to have a crack at getting to SG.

My question is what routes would achieve the most SC earn for the least $$ spent. We are both self funded so don't want to spend a fortune.

We would be looking at doing a run after April.

Thankyou in advance for any ideas you guys may have.

Where are you is a good start :?:

I did say I was new didn't I?..lol Based in MEL.
:D :D

How many SCs do you each currently have :?:

The bare minimum or a few extra?

Are you willing to burn points on an ASA or $$ only.

When are your renewal dates?

Anything else that might be useful???

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Adding your location to your profile (displayed under your avatar) really helps, in the same way that we can see what status you are without asking ;)

Is there anywhere you like to go regularly, or just want to go full stop?

I have 340 SC my wife 320.

I would prefer at this stage to just use $$ rather than points, I have 55k and my wife 32k.

My status renewal is date is April 2013 my wife November this year.

We are a little time poor as we both have jobs involving long hours, although a week off to do a status run wouldn't be too much of a problem.

Location added!

Don't really mind where we go just want to go!

The kind of budget we would be looking at is something like $1200 max each.

Hope that helps :)

Have a look at this thread as it has a lot of tips & suggestions. A couple of the best value JASA's (business class 'any seat award') which will earn ff points & status credits. TSV/xBNE/DRW 140 SC or TSV/xBNE/ADL 130 SC for a cost of 24,000 points pp plus approx AUD120.00 pp - double the amounts for the return levels.

You could also buy cheap Jetstar airfares & add on the plus bundle that will earn QF ff points & SC & compare that to a QF Sale or Red-e-Deal fare as it may well be cheaper than the JQ base fare plus the add on amount to earn points/credits.

Domestically QF Sale fares or Red-e-Deal fares are classed as 'discount economy' however 'flexisaver' fares earn double the SC & sometimes there's not much difference in fares eg recently I looked at a domestic fare which was approx AUD240.00 on a Red-e-Deal & approx AUD270.00 for a FlexiSaver ie only AUD30.00 more.

You could maybe fly MEL/ADL on a cheapie then get a JASA ADL/x/BNE/TSV where you would need a minimum one night accomm due to early departure on another JASA TSV/xBNE/DRW then buy a cheap one way DRW/MEL airfare.

Thankyou very much oz for the information, that link is awsome!

I appreciate the point in the right direction and am busy studying it now.

I'll let you know what we decide to do.

My wife has just informed me that we also need to do a trip to Alice Springs at easter (investment property there)

I'm going to play around and see what I can come up with!

cheers again!

If you are looking at ASP, then dont fly direct when you can connect. Eg fly Mel-syd-asp.

Going direct on a flexi saver will earn 30 sc each way whilst going via syd will earn 50 each way from memory. You'll find that the cost between direct v connect is almost the same.

To book it, just plug Mel-asp into the booking engine and in the results the flights with connections will be at the bottom.

Yes, I am aware the more ports you fly through the more SC you collect.

Theres even a connection through Perth, long way to go but roll on sc and points! lol

It is even more than that MEL-SYD-ASP will earn you 60 SCs. This is because MEL-ASP is 1,156 miles so falls into the second SC zone and earns 30 SCs at the economy rate. While SYD-ASP is 1,257 miles, so just falls into the third SC zone and earns 40 SCs at the economy rate. So when combined with the MEL-SYD connection it earns 60 SCs total. So for about the same cost as a direct flight you can go via Sydney and earn twice the SCs.

Thankyou very much everyone for your tips.

They are greatly appreciated and I am now going through the process of working out the best deal for us.

I'll let you know what happens! :)
