We're looking at going in May. Has anybody been there? We're looking at hotels in the Dadonghai Beach area but can't seem to make up our mind.

Cheers!

Looks like experience is limited in this forum.

I went there for a conference in September last year. Stayed at the Sheraton at Yalong Bay which was a great spot if you want to relax, go to the beach or play golf. Apparently there are a few day trip options to the highlands etc but I did not go on any. Neither did I go into town, but those who did were relatively underwhelmed.

There were a number of resorts along Yalong Bay. The Sheraton was very well laid out, the rooms were good and tehre were plenty of dining, drinking options. I think that the physical facilities of many of the others are similarly good.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, we decided to ditch Hainan Island after all & head to Hong Kong instead. It is much more easily accessible for both of us. And I managed to score return flights from BNE on QF for $660 + 17K FF points. The missus picked up flights on Aeroflot from SVO for $600 return. :)

Not surprised - Hainan is full of Russian tourists. You should notice a lot of Russian language menus too, apparently.

Yeah so I've heard. In Thailand I often got mistaken for Russian & handed Russian menus at restaurants. The suit sharks would also say to me, Privyet droog! Davai!! :p
