Ryanair copping it in the commons

I lived in the UK for a few years a few years ago. I was generally loyal to BA, but if prices were too cheap I'd jump on an easyjet flight. I never, ever flew on Ryanair, but this article in the independent piqued my interest.

£13.07 an hour - and that's only when the plane is moving, no turnaround payments, 3 months unpaid leave in winter, unpaid on-call day. I know Deathstar is rubbish, but at least everyone gets paid and they don't have to sell scratchies on board!

That's a load of cough. I have loads of friends back home in Ireland who work as cabin crew for Ryanair and all earn over €50,000 per year. All been with the airline for 10 years plus. All love it.

In addition, the fees for training and uniforms are not actually charged to staff initially. They put a cost against your salary but only deduct it if you leave within a certain timeframe.

Potentially the issue is that subcontract ed staff have much less generous contracts and more onerous conditions. Ala qantas staff vs agency staff in australia vs london crew etc or the similar situation with jetstar crew based in australia versus asia.

Also know of pilots & cabin crew earning = AUD 150 - 200k ++ & AUD 50 - 80k ++ p.a. respectively, with a lower work load & much lower tax rate, provided &/or subsidised quality housing & well deserved merits of advancements..

Ryanair has workers from many parts of the EU serving as Cabin crew with different wage levels.

Seriously? What a load of hogwash. The untruths that get quoted on this site are amazing. If you don't believe me go to the emirates careers website and see how mich they pay their cabin crew. It is no where near those figures. A captain make that kind of money and maybe a senior first officer but certainly not cabin crew.

And as a comparison, qf long haul flight crew make way more than those figures. qf domestic flight crew would make slightly more than those figures and virgin domestic rougly on par with those figures.

As for a lower workload, crew for middle easter carriers work way harder than in Australia. You only have to look at flight and cabin crew forums to see how much of a big issue fatigue is over there.
