So am planning a trip to Europe and back via USA and this is the best my travel agent has come up with, ensuring that all sectors earn Velocity points/SC's and allowing for lounge access/increased baggage etc

Brisbane - London (Singapore Airlines)
London - New York (Virgin Atlantic)
New York - Las Vegas (Delta)
Las Vegas - Los Angeles (Delta)
Los Angeles - Brisbane (Singapore, or Virgin Australia)

Pretty chuffed we'll get use of the Clubhouse in London - but the only other lounge on that routing I've tried is the pretty average one at Singapore. What are the others like?

Fair is at Christmas and costing just over $4k - so it's not cheap - but seems the best option for a Velocity member

Any other things I should be aware of with partner airlines?

VA's RTW fares don't leave you with many options if you restrict yourself to aligned airlines.

For LAX - BNE, you won't be flying SQ unless you go back via NRT & SIN. You'll be on VA unless you want to go back via Sydney & on DL metal LAX - SYD.

Have you considered Virgin America for the domestic US flights?

If you haven't already, check the RTW specials on the Velocity site with suggested routings. Also check the T & C that you can access off that page. You'll have to book those with a travel agent. If you can find one, go with a RTW specialist.

I'm going on a Circle Pacific fare in January/February with VA/SQ SYD - LAX - NRT - SIN - SYD.

Ah sorr yeah it's air NZ back from LAX

this isn't a rtw fare as such I don't think - they were too restrictive

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I wasn't even thinking of Air NZ as an option from LAX but yes, it's an option.

Check the RTW fares, you might find it cheaper.

Flew DL domestic recently, and there was no free/increased baggage allowance for VA Gold, though there was lounge access to the DL SkyClub.

Wow, the RTW fare example is terrible on that link :p. Get to JNB then make your own way to Europe, get to New York then make your own way transcontinental.
