I am looking to fly to JFK (QF/OW) but am keen to go RTW (an SC run). Unfortunately, I cannot use an explorer fare because of the minimum 10 day away requirement. Would that necessitate adding up the fares on individual legs or is there another way to do it? Trying to book a dummy booking on the QF site just fails.

What cabin are you planning to fly in?

If Business or First, an xONEx has no minimum stay if starting in the South-West Pacific (and Japan or Hong Kong, for that matter).

Thanks, Hawkeye.
It will be J and I did see the SW Pacific concession, but when I previously tried to book one of these tickets (J) through my travel agent, she said I needed to stay away at least 10 days. Also, the reason I thought the QF website was telling me it couldn't book the itinerary further suggested to me that I just couldn't do it. I thought maybe (and it lists countries on the ow explorer condition page under continents as "Australia, NZ and SW Pacific") SW Pacific specifically did not include Australia and NZ. Will try again now.

You could always take a "positioning" flight to NAN and use one of FJ's J class sales to avoid the 10 day rule issue (good SC earn by creative routing - do seach here but something like BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN for the same price as SYD-NAN, all in J.)

Just phone the AA ATW desk 9if it still exists) - takes about 7 mins to book a DONE4.

Extract from the fare rules:

MINIMUM STAY NONE FROM/TO S.W. PACIFIC FOR BUSINESS CLASS AROUND THE WORLD FARES

SWP definitely includes Australia and NZ.

At a practical level, the on-line booking engine has a few foibles, and can never be 100% relied upon.

If your current TA won't ticket despite pointing out the fairly clear exception, do as simongr says and use the AA ATW desk, or find another TA.

I'd say the TA has probably never booked a J explorer fare & assumed that you need a 10 day min stay because you do in Y.

Probably a good idea as mentioned above the use the AA ATW Desk as they'll have booked heaps of these fares before so you won't get mucked around.

Thanks all for the advice. So it looks like I should be able to do it. Will investigate further.
