Hi everyone

As a community we are in many ways lucky to enjoy the benefits of travel and the rewards associated with the points earned and wondered if there was an opportunity to continue to do so but then to contribute to something greater.

What I would like to propose with the approval and assistance of Qantas is a way that those of us that can may donate points to the Children's Hospital Appeal that could be used to redeem flights for parents or close relatives from remote areas to be with their sick children.

What does everyone feel about this and how can we archive this?

I for one would be happy to contribute 20k Points to such a fund

Great idea and I'd contribute. Believe it would need a couple of members to act under their real personas to come together , maybe ask RR for a way into the relevant part of QF (more senior the better) and take it from there. Will need specific change of rules, but we know they change the rules in an 'enhanced' way quite often :)

One issue: What Children's Hospital Appeal are we talking about? I reckon in most states there are many cases where such a 'service' would be appreciated.

Maybe the 'fund' should be established by Qantas, with them matching donated points 1:1 and those asking for assistance would apply to Qantas who may pro-rata the fund between states or areas? Members might develop the scheme and pitch it to Qantas.

My motivation was the upcoming Melbourne Easter appeal but no reason why it couldn't become a national project administered by Qantas with donations from AFF members and other Frequent Flyers?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Oh and have already sent a PM to Red Roo with the suggestion to review this Thread after all it would have to be GREAT advertising for them and also for the AFF community.

Red Roo has responded and whilst it is too late for this year it has been put forward as a suggestion for the future. It would mean that they would be set up as a charitable organisation in the Qantas Store and points could be donated that way keeping it with in Terms and Conditions of the programme.

Having a daughter who is an ongoing oncology patient at the RCH (all cured now) i would also love to contribute. Luckily for us we live in Melbourne but i can only imagine the anguish for people who live hours away in the bush to be able to visit a sick child in hospital. I have personally witnessed many families who couldn't afford to bring brothers and sisters from the country to visit a sick sibling, so your donation of points could really help make a flight out of nothing. Would also be good to see Qantas and Virgin donate some points too - maybe matching all of our donations?
