Is Row 3&4 reserved for Golds and Plats? On a recent flight only the four windows were taken in rows 3&4. pretty much every seat back was full. Numerous times people attempted to move up but told to go back as these were reserved for high tier guests. This was ex OOL so a lot of young infrequent flyers who think they can move wherever they wish.

I am guessing flexi's are allowed also but it's been a while since flown as a flexi.

Reminds me a bit if VX's main cabin select.

Short answer is yes, on Sunday I had a flexi in the middle, often get one.

Not sure to be completely honest, but I'm Velocity Gold and my partner is Velocity Plat and usually fly in/out of OOL. 98% of the time we are automatically allocated to Row 3, so we assume because of status. Not complaining. :D

Im SG and am usually pre-allocated Row 3 (I only really fly on Friday nights and weekends). When I was PS I could barely get above Row 8.

Row 3 is a really nice perk - I love the extra legroom, its quieter than being down the back (both in terms of children and engine noise) and because you are seated with other FFs they tend to be more respectful and friendlier than the once a year 'me me me' fliers.

I am Plat and partner is SG both always seem to get row 3, so presumed that it was status related, I'm not sure what others see when they go into select a seat but usually I have already been assigned this row, and all other seats appear as available.
Interested to know if this is standard - certainly a great row to be in for space.

I've been SG since Velocity started, and usually get row 3 or 4, but on popular SYD-MEL commuter flights, I sometimes get bumped back to row 6. When I query it, I'm told it's because of the high number of Plats and Golds on board.

I am WP - i find that i am always seated with another WP or SG in row 3, and never get a shadow. Tempted to move back a few rows so i do get a spare seat next to me.

Do you ever change your seat online before checking in with these "bumped" situations?

I never let the initial allocation stay. I select another seat and complete that process. If I really want the original seat allocated I immedialty go an change it back, again completing the process.

Doing this, my seat has never been subsequently 'bumped'.

Definitely one of the best perks with gold and platinum levels in DJ. Almost always have row 3 and as Boris spatsky said im always sitting beside a plat or gold. great having the extra leg room and being off just after J class when your trying to get to the taxi queue before the rest of the plane in the morning.

I've never understood taxi queues. In this day and age, it is easy to book one in advance.

I'm a fairly new DJ Platinum but even as a Gold I got row 3 every time.

Today flying SYD-OOL with my 10yo niece I'd booked us into 3A & 3C and asked at the Premium Entry if I could have a shadow and was told they deliberately keep the first few rows for SG and WP to maintain exclusivity unless its a fully booked flight and sometimes can't so was happily given a shadow in 3B.

Hope that helps confirm your query and suspicion.

I'll add my voice to the chorus that this is a great VA perk for SG and WP. I'm only a VA SG but almost always get Row 3A or 3F - I'm usually onto the seat allocation at the 14 day prior to flying window so not sure how you'd go booking closer to the day of flying (if I do book close to the travel date it's usually a half full flight so still availability in Row 3).

The best part is I've had a shadow on lots of flights (I'd even say most) when sitting in Row 3 despite a fairly full plane. In my favour I'm usually flying to regional Queensland so it seems like less status pax than the capital city flights.

The funniest was a trip with mrs qld flyer and the two kids (2 and 4). Was able to allocate 3A-3D for us but the looks for other pax as we stretched out with extra legroom but the 2 little ones don't even reach 1/2 way to the floor (and we got a shadow in 3E). It was great for space though and letting the kids be a little active during the flights.

There is another reason behind this sometimes. MEL - OOL and SYD - OOL have some of VA's highest J loads. I personally have experienced changing a flight but due to high loads no J seats available. They will still move you as long as you accept that you will not get J class seating / meal. So I got 3A with centre seat blocked and another J guest in the C seat. We received complimentary product from Y menu. I needed to get back to MEL so didn't care about not getting row 1/2. CS said it was the same on her flight up to OOL from SYD.

I'm strictly aisle seat traveller but for tomorrow's flight, I've selected Row 3 window seat as aisle was taken up. Since moving to Gold tier, I've always had pleasure of Row 3 seating. Leg room and, often, empty middle seat, is a big plus with DJ. I have no qualms choosing DJ over QF. Jetstar is a distant third.

ps: I've now 4 Gold luggage tags, two courtesy of junior who shot to Platinum.
