Sitting on the Tarmac in NTL in a 737-800 fitted with LTA, old P/E seats up the front, etc. It's definitely an 800 (checked the safety card and counted the over the wing exits). I thought the only rogue birds were all 700s.

FWIW I'm sitting in 3D and was actually pleasantly surprised to see the LTA fitted in this seat (see previous gripes about IFE) but didn't think this config existed at the moment.

Had one of these recently, I think it was VH-VOD. I also had 1D on VH-VBU in Y that week but it's a 700.

The only other candidate is VH-VUC, but I'm pretty sure that had the fix.

I'd hazard a guess that you'll have a different POV 777, but that experience would really pull at my heart strings. J might be great (when it works as envisaged), I concede that point, but I'm unlikely to pay to fly it. PE I did pay to fly....infrequently granted, but still paid to fly it on numerous occasions (and I don't mean the taste tester). I actually miss that "in between" stage for DJ. I genuinely believe if DJ had implemented some of the difference we see with J in PE, it would have worked for them and us. I think the problem was there was too wider price gap for little more than extra leg room. Oh well, such is life.

No real view on the P/E v. J thing. P/E clearly didn't work financially or practically for Virgin and J is obviously doing much better for them. I rarely pay to fly J but do use my points, free upgrades, etc and appreciate the odd op up and i've enjoyed it on those occasions.

However, as i've said many times before the IFE in the old Y configuation was much, much, much better and i thought that, on the whole, the Y experience on the old plane today was better than the refurbed planes with no IFE. [Having said that, i'm not tall enough for leg room to be a major issue]

How far in advance are the actual aircraft rego's known?
Knowing my luck I'll score this aircraft next weekend flying in J back to NTL
A bit OT but I'm a little suspicious that DJ aren't exactly interested in capturing the business sector of the NTL market ( eg. no J to BNE, no plans for a Lounge). Mind you QF have all but deserted us here :(

I reckon NTL is a bit of a JQ fortress/ base. When Jetstar are regularly throwing $39 fares around ex Newcastle and have 3 or 4 times the frequency it's very difficult for DJ to get much traction. I can't see them getting a lounge any time soon for 3 flights a day. I do wonder whether they'd consider NTL-OOL (which they had for a while and dropped) and NTL-CBR as ATR routes one of these days. The last one is a little out there but as someone who works in NTL a lot and lives in MEL it occurred to me recently that a flight to Canberra with onward connections to MEL and ADL (and elsewhere) might actually work.

I do feel your sorrow there PF (to a far smaller degree). I do need to fly to NTL on a semi-regular occasions (OK I embellish semi-regular slightly) and I'm marginally put-out because DJ has canned OOL-NTL and BNE-NTL are often pegged at a more exorbitant fare than the competition would portrait. Pity. NTL is a destination waiting to shine....by that I mean a solid combination of tourist (pleb class) and business travel.....NTL does now offer more than the travelling public wants to recognise. A proactive airline could really sell NTL as destination for all. On one business trip, one of my clients took me for a "tourist" drive around Newcastle and I was so impressed I booked the family for a long week-end back as a genuine tourist. Until that point, I imagined NTL as a work town, but that has been clearly laid to rest as far as I'm concerned.

It's one of the hippest cities in the world apparently. Can't say i'm convinced by that claim but i do really love the place.

Ha, ha......I haven't read your article (and TBH, not likely too) but Hippest??? Each to their own. I personally don't like "hip" but I do like the transformation of the waterfront. I do like the coastline....beaches and views from the raised headlands. I do like the industrial history of the town (Tapdogs? or was that Woolongong?) and most importantly of all, I do like clients who pay my bills ;).......... + a farmstay accommodation north and the adventure rope course bizzo.
