Rexit because QF wrecks it?

..As long as people are willing to buy seats on NTL-SYD and the airline prioritises the route within its allocation and pays the landing fee, it has just as much right to exist than any other route.

It's a very small aircraft that at peak times takes up a valuable landing slot. The major airlines have made this point time and time again.

Inefficient. If Rex wants to operate this, why not to Bankstown? That's still in suburban Sydney.

And remember for connections to/from international airlines, one still has to get from/to the domestic terminals that again chews up more time.

Given that Rex still doesn't appear to have a fleet renewal plan (no comparable replacement for the SF340), this may just be the start as they shrink themselves down to a few most profitable routes and cannibalise airframes.

At some point they either have to take on QF link with larger aircraft, or become the regional arm of VA. Not sure there's any other option that keeps them in operation.
The same can be said of what Qantas will do with their Dash 8-200/300 frames. I don't believe they'd be able to service LDH without them.

While I can understand the frustration from REX when QFLink enters the market, the fact their prices are high and their product has remained the same instead of improving over time, and the fact they don't seem to have a renewal plan doesn't suggest they've got a reason to complain. If they could offer up a reason for being, that would be appreciated I am sure.

A) It’s not that small. It’s basically the same size as a DHC-8-200 which QLink operate out of Sydney (34 v 36 seats)
B) As for domestic vs international, that’s an Illogical argument, the same could be said for any domestic flight. Rex does interline with Virgin.
C) Sydney Airport can handle more aircraft than its movement cap allows. The airlines are actually calling for small aircraft such as these to be excluded from the cap - not excluded from the airport. There is also some inflexibility in swapping slots for regional routes vs non regional routes which cause them grief - because the law guarantees a certain number of slots for regional routes.
D) Do you honestly think the three measly slots taken up by Rex on this route would make a drop in the ocean if handed back? Only one slot in each peak period (morning and afternoon).

QF will start flying to Orange in May. REX is upset that QF are moving into their territory. OK, I understand the annoyance from REX, but then they go on to say they are reviewing their plans to fly from Orange to Brisbane and Melbourne - two cities that are already serviced by FlyCorporate. So REX doesn't want QF to compete with them, but REX doesn't mind treading on the toes of another airline.
