For those that may have missed it, REX have picked up 2 x former SQ/Silkair 738W’s 9V-MGA and MGB, due for delivery in June and July 2023.

An brilliant opportunistic acquisition of high spec aircraft which currently feature a C12Y150 cabin, for fleet commonality I’m surprised VA didn’t grab these 2 as they already operate a number of ex SQ/MI 738’s.

I’m quietly confident we’ll see REX acquire more 737’s in the coming years.

Attached is a recent photo of them both (above the engine) parked engineless at Changi still in SQ colours.

The 2 upcoming REX 738 deliveries are directly 'sub-leased' from SQ, considering MGA and MGB are leased by SQ from the lessor.

ex-9V-MGA. Will assumably be going in for slight cabin reconfig (Assumably upholstery replacement in both classes and possibly the ripping out of one J row).

8KH entered service this evening operating a BNE-SYD-BNE rotation.

It has been reconfigured into a C8Y162 layout. Can confirm the Y cabin has not been changed and features the original SilkAir seats in the Singapore Airlines blue and grey upholstery.

Haven’t see a picture of the J cabin, but I’m guessing it’s unchanged too, sans 1 row.

This is the photo that appeared on my feed today, from the Melbourne Spotters page.

I’ve lost count how many different interiors Rex has now.

The 9th jet should be arriving in Australia over the next week or so.

In what I can only assume is a touching tribute to the one and only John Sharp, the jet will sport the registration VH-8JS.

According to another fleet movements forum, 9V-MGM is rumoured to be withdrawn from SQ shortly and is the next 737 to be leased from SQ to REX within the next month or two.

It’s also rumoured that VH-RQG (ex Virgin aircraft) will be leaving the Rex fleet soon.

I was reading on another site that SQ has two leased 737-800s on the books, assuming these are going to Rex like the others.

Next question would need to be what expansion is next? Transcon surely?

Interesting that they're simultaneously cancelling many of their intrastate services, apparently because they don't have enough pilots.

well that would be pilots qualified for saab flights

I wonder who they are leaving them for - qantaslink on those horrible Q400s?
