Rex and Etihad have entered into an interline agreement.
This exciting partnership between Rex and Etihad, the UAE’s national carrier, provides passengers on Rex's domestic routes convenient connections with Etihad's global network.
“Partnering with a world-class airline like Etihad brings a new era of choice and connection for Rex passengers,” said Rex’s General Manager of Network Strategy, Warrick Lodge.
“Passengers will be able to fly to either Sydney or Melbourne on Rex and thereafter connect on Etihad to a further 72 destinations across the globe.”
Unlike the Delta partnership, the media release does state Rex interlines can be booked through the Etihad website.

Interesting to see how this pans out for VA & EY.

As I mentioned in another thread, an interline is the most basic type of agreement that exists between airlines. It doesn’t really mean a whole lot - just that you can book a connecting Rex flight on an Etihad ticket and get bags checked through.

I wouldn’t read too much into it, Etihad currently has interline agreements with 140 other airlines.

To be honest who even flies on Rex for international-domestic connections, let alone takes advantage of these ‘interline’ partnerships. No advantages at all whatsoever apart from automatic baggage transfer.

Rex will probably hype this up portraying this as a rival to QF-EK but the reality is that both Rex and EY have passed their peak and are in decline.

I really hope VA remain as partners - booked Etihad business and want to collect VA status credits and points. I wonder how long they will give customers if they decide to end their partnership.

Considering REX has started a habit of picking up the interlines of former major/current minor VA partners, I wonder if Hainan Airlines (former HNA carrier) will be next carrier following Delta and Etihad into signing up an REX interline for secondary Australia-China feed (considering Hainan mostly flies secondary Australia-China routes).

Can anyone actually see any Rex flights available for sale on the Etihad website? I'm only seeing connections offered on domestic AU routes on VA.

FWIW I'm not even seeing Parkes or Broken Hill as options to book on the Etihad website, and can't find any ZL/EY connections available to book via OTAs either.

I was searching yesterday on Etihad and some OTAs and none of them are displaying ZL interline sectors.

EY/VA codeshares are always shown first on EY's website -- with VA interline and then QF interline available on OTAs with EY/VA codeshares.
I cannot see any ZL sectors connected to EY sectors on a 607 document.
