Rex accuses Qantas of predatory behaviour, withdraws from routes

In the latest uno reverse card move from Rex, they are increasing frequencies on routes they compete with Qantas on. I can’t imagine what John would be saying if it was Qantas increasing flights.
The day Rex releases a press release without mentioning Qantas is the day everyone should be worried the world is going to stop spinning.

The funniest thing is the % increases. Take Albury for example, a 25% increase when you only have 4 flights means you're just putting on one extra flight per day (maximum 36 seats).

Same with Broken Hill, 1 daily flight to two does mean a 50% increase but it's just insanity to phrase it like that.

It really is quite funny. The other thing that is buried deep at the end: “From June 27, Rex will be withdrawing from the Sydney to Cooma route which Qantas sees fit to want to enter even though this route had only 2,000 passengers in the last 12 months.” Funny, it was only a couple of weeks ago Qantas said they have no plans to start Sydney to Cooma like they did pre-covid. And yet John persists…

It’s easy to see John Sharp never really stopped being a politician. Rex’s PR strategy is very much that of an opposition leader … where ever you see the word “Qantas” in a Rex press release you substitute the phrase “the government”, it sounds exactly like an opposition press release.

The other thing they’ll have to contend with, and hopefully don’t underestimate, is the amount of people who get in the car and drive to Launceston to fly Jetstar or Virgin on a “jet.”
Funny that - I'd be getting into the car to drive to BWT or DPO to fly a turbo-prop instead.

Interesting to see how Rex talks about itself coming onto a Qantas monopoly regional route, compared to its commentary on Qantas doing the same on one of its monopoly regional routes!

Here's an extract from Rex's media release today:

The aircraft’s 8.10am arrival - 10 minutes ahead of schedule - also heralded the return of competition and the breaking of the Qantas monopoly on the route. The twice-daily weekday service, enabling day return travel in both directions, has fares from an affordable $149 each way.
...
“We are delighted to once again be able to offer competitive airfares, reliable services and user-friendly schedules to the long suffering and neglected communities of northern Tasmania who for far too long have been forced to pay exorbitant prices,” Mr Sharp said.
...
“The direct flights will provide more options for travellers and additional capacity to meet demand and has been warmly welcomed by the Tasmanian community, tourism and business operators."

I've said it before, but whenever a Rex press release refers to Qantas, it could be a press release from the ALP referring to the LNP or vice versa. In the case of Rex and who gets involved, once a politician, always a politician :p
