Hi All, I'm starting to think about my next family trip back to the States. I am Gold and my husband might be gold by then. We want to use points to travel in PE next trip and but wont have enough to buy all on pts (2 adults, 1 child and possibly 1 infant). My plan is to use points for 1 adults PE reward fare BNE-LAX return, then purchase 1 adult, 1 child (+maybe lap infant) in Economy flexi, then use points to upgrade to PE.

Is this too risky? Presumably if we search PE reward and there were enough seats in availble for all of us then an upgrade would be available as well, correct?

TIA

Upgrade seats come from the same class as reward seats. Suggest doing the booking while on the phone to confirm availability with VA and then upgrade once booking completed. Also reserve seating at same time as will be separate bookings ( one reward booking + one commercial upgraded booking)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As per previous post, confirm reward availability on the phone while doing the booking online. Note for long haul upgrade, the points must come from a SG or WP account.

Depending when you are travelling it may just be worth buying the PE flights (might get you or your hubby to platinum with the extra SC and the extra points never hurt either ;).. If it is off peak you can usually pick them up for $2500 whereas Flexi is usually 2000-2600 in my limited searching ( I've never seen huge sales on flexis???). I am in the U.S. Now and got my PE for 2500. My partners departure date was 3 weeks later (in peak time) and her flights in Flexi were 2600!!! So if your trip isn't for a while yet and your not travelling in peak times keep checking specials and happy hours (only a couple of weeks ago they were having PE flights bris or Syd-lax return for about the 2500 although I do not recall dates :). Good luck!

Couple of weeks back I priced PE Savers on 15/10/15 and returning 30/11/15 as $2K return, bargain.
