Not sure why they aren't available either. I have been keeping an eye on the SCL - SYD route myself, and have had to search the flights as a SYD - SCL return. Doing this search will then show you the classic award flights available SCL - SYD. I rang QF to book and they didn't know why they weren't available via the website.
The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
It seems a lot of other cities cannot be in the 'Origin' field and so I have been using the same technique as zig to check availability. Still it's one of the more annoying things about the booking engine, why can't any and all cities be in the to/from fields already? Why do we have to select a 'box' to activate more cities? Why aren't MH and JL still available online?...
You'd think that as Qantas move from being a pure airline to the virtual airline/Travel agency/FFP administrator model, that they would place greater emphasis on ensuring that the revenue streams on which they place emphasized reliance would actually be BETTER supported by the tools which generate those streams, rather than the continual shoddy "enhancements" we continue to come up against.
Unless, of course, one of those "unpublished enhancements" is the opportunity for Qantas to generate greater income via their assisted booking fees ... then again, they are forever telling us that they are continuing to look for ways to cut costs and so you'd think that the cost of the schoolies enhancing the search engine on work experience wages would be far less than employing call centre staff.
Have used Classic awards several times from Santiago and always have had to ring up to book. I check to see if they are available via doing a dummy return from SYD, then call with the dates I require. No known reason why these can't be done online.
Certainly is! When I first started monitoring the route I initially thought it was a temporary system glitch, but it is a persistent problem. As Zainman noted it seems that there are a lot of cities affected by it.
