I'd very much like to use my miles to go over to Abu Dhabi for the Grand Prix next yr

I would like to fly on the VA operated (VA 29/30) flight in J

Would I have to book SYD to AUH with miles separately and then get myself from MCY or BNE to SYD? If I put in from MCY to AUH it doesn't give me anything on the site.

Also I would like to fly on Nov 20th - any idea when reward flights will become available for this date? Would like to get in and book it as soon as they do to avoid disappointment

Thanks peeps!

Should be about 20 days from now.

There's no VA operated flight direct from BNE to AUH right?

That's correct. Your main options for a single ticket VA rewards flight are:

1. MCY-SYD-AUH
2. MCY-BNE-SIN-AUH

As for flying on the VA777 - you just have to search multiple days until you find it - if you cannot find it then its probably out for scheduled service or something.

Yeah thought so - will prob just sort the SYD to AUH bit and then worry about getting myself down to SYD closer to the time

Interestingly I'm doing the similar route to London in a fortnight and am going BNE-MEL-AUH-LHR, and back LHR-AUD-SYD-BNE - only managed to get the AUH to SYD on the VA777 (VA30)

As your flying via Mel that makes sense as VA do not fly a 777 to AUH from Mel.

Stupid routing rules on the the site though....

The reward booking engine will display:

MCY-SYD-AUH on Etihad for the international leg
MCY-BNE-SYD-AUH on VA777 for the international leg

There is no way to get on VA29 that includes a MCY-SYD direct flight..... typical VA stupidity.

Thanks

Is it worth trying to get myself on the VA777 as opposed to the Etihad codeshare? Hopefully will be in J if available.

Etihad J is nice (if it's the new seats, just OK if it's the old ones), but the stupid stop in Singapore from BNE is a bit of a pain. I guess a transfer in SYD is also a pain...

On the upside for SYD, I suppose it's possible the new SYD lounge would be open by then, and if it's like the LHR or AUH ones and they let velocity plats into the first class section, it should be very nice...

Being an A330 there is nothing stupid about stopping for fuel.

I don't mind via SYD as can probably sort a work trip - or catch up with friends there.

Assume I can do Etihad SYD - AUH also? Would it be the same amount of miles as a VA operated 777 flight? If so I guess I should prob aim for the VA777 as a first choice....

You could always get a reward to Singapore and then grab the special ex Malaysia to Melbourne.

I'm not saying it's not preferable to crashing into the Indian Ocean, but it's definitely not preferable to a direct flight on an A340...
