Was told by someone on this forum that United was a great website to check Star Alliance reward availability. Punched in the dates and was given a range of reward flights to choose from.. Looking good..... Rang SQ to book ,armed with my flight numbers, only to be told that there is no availability  They told me that United have a different allowance of Star Alliance seats to SQ. Does anyone know how I can realiably check availability on Star alliance please?

I use to use the ANAtool, ie through the ANA website. This thread might be of assistane. http://www.australianfrequentflyer....trategies-redeeming-kf-miles-other-29900.html

I haven't used that method for a while. Perhaps another member can update as to the current suitability.

I'd be pleased if some-one did venture a 'universal award site' but I suspect most of the mainstream airlines will reserve a certain proportion of their award seats for their own FF program customers and this may not be visible to other sites. On Aeroplan, while I can book Award seats on any *A airline, I've never assumed that that is all the Award seats that might be available to be booked on any particular airline.

I know that I can access certain award seats on Air Canada as an Aeroplan 75K elite member that Aerolplan members of lower status can't 'see', let alone members of other airline FF programs.

The United tool is reliable for most star alliance - with the exception of SQ. AFAIK the UA site doesn't show SQ availability?

The other thing with the UA site is that you must look under the 'SAVER' award column. The other column is double the price 'anytime' award availability. That won't be accessible to star alliance partners generally.

Otherwise - under the 'saver' column, UA is pretty accurate. There are however some booking issues which apply to all airlines... for example sometimes flights leaving just after midnight won't show unless you enter the previous day's date (rather than the day you are actually flying).

I'm currently booked SYD - JEFK from Oct 19

I can see that SYD - SIN in F is available on Oct 16

Rang up Krisflyer to see if I could change to the earlier flight and pay for the stopover but was advised no flights available and can't waitlist.

Is this because it's technically a SYD - JFK flight or have I asked incorrectly?

.
I was actually searching TG availability in order to book with SQ points. TG showed available, but it wasn't when I rang SQ. Nor was it when I rang TG to query the SQ response...

This was under the 'saver' award column? If that's the case that is strange. TG isn't known for phantom availability (in fact they are known to be exceedingly generous in their FF award allocation).

It sure was. I thought I was on to a winner.
