Is this true? If it is then I have totally miscalculated what I was trying to achieve.

My review date was 02 September 2015. I did not have enough SCs to retain Gold.

By 20 September 2015 I had the 500 SCs required for Gold but unfortunately flights from 16/17 September did not post until 29 September 2015. So I dropped back to Silver and by the time the flights credited other flights had dropped so I did not have quite enough. Then I called them and they reinstated my Gold status.

Problem is now my review date is 05 October 2016 and I now have only 10 SCs towards maintaing Gold. Not likely to be able to maintain Gold as I am doing less flying now.

I am guessing 02 September has disappeared as my review date as I did not have enough SCs to maintain Gold? So should my review date be 20 September which is the date I attained Gold from scratch or 05 October which is the date they processed Gold status manually. Probably best to extend the date as far as possible just in case I can maintain Gold again?

Does it matter? I suspect the manual intervention has created the fixed date.

Virgin operates on a rolling basis but qualify for a higher level and it fixes that date for 12m

I think VA's SC thingo is moveable, but QF's one is fixed.
I met VA PS in Jun 14, and got it again it Jun 15.
But my VA anniversary is around Dec, joined VA's FF system in Dec 2005.

They have done you a favour then if you don't think you'll reach Gold again with the manual adjustment; Remembering you also have the months Grace period to use the benefits of your Gold status while its under review next year, you'll be able to use your card til 05/11/2016

That said - I travelled OS on the ACTUAL date of my review. (I had requalified as it happens way before).
• I had grief (with Etihad) at the SYDNEY checkin desk (supervisor intervention required!), so once I got to the lounge, I phoned VA and explained the issue. The CS agent was most apologetic and understanding and whipped me up a 'He's actually all good for another year' letter PDF and emailed it to me in case I had further issues.
• Abu Dhabi lounge queried the card dates - showed them the one month grace bit and then no problem.
• Manchester and Abu Dhabi on the return no problem at all with the card. Colour was right, good to go!

End of the day: if travelling OS during the one month grace period it's maybe best to get a backup letter from VA as to your status, as it often comes down to how the lounge angel/devil has been trained. Many people see 'review date' as 'expiry date' and don't understand the one month grace period bit on the back.

The back of my card (issued in July) doesn't mention a one month grace period - it has a review date and an expiry date. Perhaps VA have changed the wording to avoid confusion?

No it doesn't matter that much but has caused me slight confusion and plans need re-arranging.

Even though I had missed qualifying Gold by the review date for some reason I thought if I had requalified within the month grace period then the review date stays the same. But the grace period wasn't 1 month it was only 14 days when I dropped back to down to Silver mid September.

The grace period is outside your qualifying year and those SCs earned after 2 Sept. do not count toward the Gold requal. Because you reached 500SCs after the status drop, you actually re-attained Gold (after a short drop to silver) and hence the review date changed.

The manual adjustment was not extending your previous Gold status, it was adjusting your rolling year balance to accurately reflect you gaining 500SCs even though some did not post on time.

The upside is that you might see another Hilton SM!
