Sorry - may well have been answered elsewhere but not when I can find, but had a situation today which confused me.

6 years of platinum with Qantas and rarely need to use their services (via phone) but today I wanted to make a classic reward points booking in economy, MEL - CNS. Fine for the outgoing flight (on Jetstar) but coming back the flight I wanted (on Jetstar) was not showing as available.

I called the Platinum phone number to request if they can open up seats which I have had to do once before (Qantas international flight) and it worked fine, and spoke to a lady who advised me that they can put in a request to the FF team and if I call back in 48 hours they can advise if they can open up two seats in economy that I need on this flight. She said there was plenty of space in economy on the flight I wanted and as she was taking all the details and preparing the email, we got cut off.

Called back and spoke to a different person who stated, categorically, that this can never happen, he's been with Qantas 17 years and you can only ever request seats to be opened up on Qantas flights and never on Jetstar and I was told totally the incorrect information. Very firm but fair was his tone!

Incidentally I called the Platinum priority number who generally tend to be the more experienced and better informed agents.

I just need to know who was right as I'm getting more and more frustrated with Qantas service levels and a total lack of consistency across the business - this conversation was typical of this. Can anyone advise if seats can be opened, or requested, on Jetstar flights or is it solely related to Qantas? Thanks

It's an unwritten benefit anyway, so they can make up any rules they want. HUACA is your only option.

The benefit is clear. Unfortunately it doesn't apply to flights.

Sorry - do you mean Jetstar flights? Only that in chatting online with a Qantas rep I'm now being told I can request seats to be opened up on Jetstar flights...

Sorry. I completely left out a word. Yes, it doesn't apply to Jetstar flight.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Can't happen on Jetstar flights, completely different revenue management teams that don't deal with each other much.

Are you saving the chat conversation as a pdf doc as proof of what was said?

It's the Manila operators. They recently tried to sell me a DFW-JFK (was looking for reward seats) sector by it self and then couldn't get a price for it, and then told me it was a system issue and for me to call Reservations!

For those who don't know, Qantas can't sell pure domestic sectors in the USA on a QF Flight number!

Seriously????
WTF is going on there. Thankfully I've not yet had to deal with them. I'm dreading it :(

I would think that even if they did put in a request for it, chances of it being approved are pretty slim!
