I've noticed over the last few days that when I "reply with quote" (through both the Android and web versions of the site), if the person has a signature that it is now quoted in the reply.

I'm sure previously signatures were being stripped off when "reply with quote" was being used.

Where it causes me issues (esp. with Android), is that you start writing your response after the body of the message you're replying to ... but end up with the signature and
after your text. So if not being very careful (and doing plenty of deletion with Android) you end up "quoting" your reply as part of their quote.

-- Edit ... Only appears to be posts from mobile devices (apple and perhaps android) that have this issue.

It happens from desktop version as well. It is to do with the type of mobile device people are using to post.

Who cares whether it was posted from an apple device, android or whatever. I wish people would remove that garbage from their posts as people have to edit it themselves when quoting that post....

sent from a computer thingy that sends stuff out into the intranetasphere......

yep, I hate that intranetasphere thingy too.. :)

But it's not really a "signature" - it's content included in your post's text upon creation.

If you are using a mobile device, you can edit that text - Mal, many of your mobile posts have the following:

My S-II posts are obvious.

Any signature you have shows up in addition to that text when using desktops.

I will not be removing my "signature" from any of my posts.

My understanding was that it would just appear at the bottom of my posts. I did not think it would cause concern or confusion.

As posted, your AFF signature is what it is - what Mal was referring to is different, even though he referred to it as a "Signature".

I find the signature is useful for explaining potential issues with a post. eg Fat finger errors, iPhone autocorrect errors. In those cases if a post reads strange, I think of alternatives that make more sense.

Also I'm usually a bit lazy with posting links to info. With a signature at least people might realise that I haven't posted a link because it is too hard, rather than just not bothering.

In that post "Sent from the Throne" is like the that the smartphone app inserts into a post - it is not your AFF php "signature".

Your actual "Signature" is the bit that starts: "The great consolation in life is to ...".

Sorry forgot the "" around signature. I do understand the difference, was just copying the terminology being used in thread.

That is indeed the smart phone inserted text.

Hmm, yeah I know how it arrives on a mobile posted post (And it is regarded as a "signature" by TapaTalk!). Not really sure why I've suddenly found grief with it - was pretty sure previously that the cursor was positioned post it on a reply, but for some reason it's now positioned differently.

And doing testing from my android it is now putting the cursor after the complete message, not before the tapatalk signature. So not sure if something has changed or why it wasn't doing it properly before.

Dunno - the Tapatalk 'signature' becomes part of the post body.

IME when quoting a post with a tapatalk 'signature', it has always been included in the
body. I generally remove it when I am quoting such a post.

A bit of a pain really, I was going to remove it from mine as a protest, but left it as at least it does indicate the method used to post with the innate understanding that 'strangely' worded posts have probably been corrupted by auto correct. :-|
