Anyone remember the first popular web cam of the African waterhole? We used to be addicted to it on very early version of Netscape. Sometime around mid -'97 AIR.

pencil and paper still works.
That's like the old joke on the fact that NASA spent a million bucks to develop a pen that would write in a zero gravity environment. And the Russians used a pencil. Pity it's an urban myth because it's a good story.:)

Where I am now they have gone to electronic records.A paper back up is off site and takes 24 hours to retrieve.
So you have someone sitting in front of you and the system goes down.
Pen and paper a much better scenario at times like these.
And I found out today I do not have permission to print anything.

I like to think I'm not a Luddite but do find paper notes an easier way to find a piece of crucial information in a real emergency

I can top that one - the Trojan Room coffee pot was the most exciting webcam in 1994 - back when I first got on the WWW. Some geeks in a uni didn't like the idea of walking down to the coffee room to see if the pot was full (in the days before everyone had to get coffee from a barista) so they set up a webcam and checked the level online. Obviously they were too lazy to top it up too. I read about it in New Scientist so we just had to find it. I needed a local geek to locate it online though - we didn't even have Alta Vista working then!

And it really wasn't worth it!

Just googled it and according to The Bloke Down The Pub it was the first webcam!

Our first computer was a Dick Smith System 80. We were the first house in our neighbourhood, that I knew of, to have a PC. My father needed it for the MBA he was doing at the time. I taught myself some basic and once put it into a loop displaying an error message I made up. Dad hit the roof and failed to see the joke. His ears still go red when I mention it all these years later. Our friends had a series of Tandy's that put the old Dick Smith to shame. Much better games and even colour graphics on the later models.

My first was a Sharp PC-1211. It fit in my pocket, and was the best thing since sliced bread - until I got the PC-1500 that is.
